reading the classics is interesting bc sometimes you're like ohhh okay so i can see how this influenced so many other works that came behind it, but the cruel side of its legacy and its fame is that its own offspring have bled it dry, and everything about it that was revelatory at the time now feels overdone because we as modern readers simply cannot experience it with fresh eyes. and then sometimes you read Wuthering Heights and every single atom of it hits just as insane as it did that day that reviewer said Ellis Bell should have killed himself

You know every show that the premise is like “people find out ghosts/monsters/demons are real and are charged with stopping them” appeal to me way more now as a post-graduate not because I believe in ghosts more or whatever but because can you IMAGINE just being handed a job that you don’t even need to apply for?
