sum: Thomas is Micro's newly hired private chef :)
wc: 5.7k เฒ fluff
Ever since Saps hired a private chef for his sickly twin brother, a cold empty apartment was filled with the smell of fresh food every morning. Micro had thought he would despise the concept of someone cooking for him, the smell of food he refused to eat being just under his nostrils made his throat gag. But that was months ago before he found out who exactly was going to become his private chef.
Thomas was a predicament to Micro, a brunette man oblivious to his own attractive pull was cooking his daily meals while Micro held his breath around him as he felt the fast beating of his chest at the sight of the man who's only job is to make him a meal, was it even legal for someone conventionally attractive to be a private chef for someone like him?
It wasn't common for Micro to ever eat in general but it's not exactly a shock that he would be able to gain the ability to wolf down a bowl of mushroom soup made by the hands of his private chef. It all started with developing a stable routine, something Micro never really had since he got used to going with what he felt like at the moment which would be soda and loose fries for days on end.
Micro had habits, tapping on the counter when it got too quiet and fiddling with the strings of his worn hoodie when he gets nervous. Thomas also had his own habits however Micro is yet to find out about the one that would be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Usually the morning would go something like this: Thomas waking up way more earlier than Micro, using the early hour to do meal prep for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Micro would wake up to the smell of fresh ingredients being either steamed or fried to his liking regardless if you asked him he wouldn't even mention the food's likeliness at all.
But today was somewhat different.
This week's meal plan schedule consisted of various versions of soups and salads per the recommended diet that Micro has chosen without a second thought admittedly just because he didn't want Thomas to think he was some kind of slob for just wanting french fries and some mac as his daily meal. Micro woke up like always, smelling the fresh smell of potato soup greeting his morning.
Micro was tired and restless to say the least what did he expect to feel after being up all night thinking and day dreaming about the auburn haired man that stood in the middle of his kitchen shirtlessโ
Wait.
Shirtless?
Thomas had a habit when he was a homecook, when the kitchen contained something steaming as well as boiling at the same time he would take his shirt off to ease the heat in the room. You can imagine the look on Micro's face as he gawked at Thomas' bare back, flexing and covered in a thin layer of sweat.
Nothing could prepare Micro for the sight in front of him, hell he never expected he would mentally drool over someone's back more than the most appetising food on earth. Thomas was still partially oblivious to Micro's intense staring, more focused on making food that was to his liking although if he was being quite honest he felt a little embarrassed more than he would like to admit being exposed like this but old habits die hard.
Forget the delicious smell of soup that was filling the room all, the only real meal that Micro truly craved at the moment was Thomas. But he can't say that out loud, not when Thomas is as dense and oblivious as a rock under the ocean at least thats what Micro thinks.
"Morning Micro. Is it alright you come here and taste this soup? I just want to make sure it's not too salty for you."
Thomas' voice wakes Micro up from his gawking, he was fooling no one with how his eyes followed every curve of muscle on Thomas' body, down to the tips of his fingers that held a spoonful of soup.
"You already noticed I'm willing to eat anything you make you know.."
Micro wanted to be more bolder, more obvious to the fact he was absolutely attracted to his own private chef but every single one shot down by the fact that Thomas is blissfully ignorant towards small hits he didn't exactly take seriously. He takes small steps towards Thomas, trying his best not to acknowledge the elephant in the room.
"I have noticed but I still care about what you think. Now could you just taste it and tell me if it's too salty.."
A silver spoon is guided towards Micro's lips, patiently waiting for him to taste the small portion of soup. He sighs softly ultimately tasting the soup, savoring it slightly as he evaluates the taste for Thomas' sake more than his own.
"It's not too salty. Shouldn't you know if it's too salty or not? You're the private chef after all."
Thomas scoffs at the statement, it wasn't entirely false he should definitely know if a certain food was too salty or not but not everything he did was solely for cooking anyways. His hand reaches for the corner of Micro's mouth, gentle as his thumb swipes off a drop of soup that stained his soft lips.
"I suppose that's true but you should know that I'm cooking for you, Micro. Not just anyone else remember?"
The white haired man would be lying if that didn't make his heart jump out his chest towards both what Thomas had done and said, just the way he had looked at him made his legs feel weaker than it usually was. Thomas continued to cook, not long after he had plated the soup into a bowl, gently setting it down infront of Micro who was in his own world, in his own mind replaying the exact same scene over and over, savoring the memory as much as he could before his trance was broken by the auburn himself.
His eyes burning holes into the freshly plated bowl of potato soup, steaming and ready to eat. Thomas had noticed the sudden silence from Micro who was avoiding direct eye contact ever since earlier, it was obvious why Micro refused to look up at Thomas, his pale cheeks being a dead give away. Putting on a shirt wasn't necessary but for the sake of Micro's poor heart it was the only way he could properly eat without choking every single time he blinked towards Thomas.
"Did you want me to spoon feed you as well Micro? I honestly don't mind if that's the case."
Thomas sat beside Micro, his eyes intently watching the white haired man hold his spoon still. Micro wasn't gonna be some helpless wife needing to be spoon fed but who can truly expect him to stay focus after what had just happened but that did give him the perfect opportunity to get back at Thomas.
"Yeah? Well I sure feel awfully tired Thomas.."
Micro teased the spoon towards Thomas and to his surprise Thomas took the spoon right out his hand as he stepped closer, scooping a small slice of potato from he bowl his other hand hovering below Micro's chin, humming as he looked at Micro who was now between choking on his spit and swallowing the lump in his throat.
โโ .โฆ
Thomas wasn't oblivious neither was he dense just ignorant against the things he can't control. He was known for being an amazing personal cook because of his attentive nature, noticing slight expressions that tells an untold story. It came to no surprise that Thomas noticed many things about Micro, he knew that the pale skinned man liked staying up late even if he doesn't usually admit it and he also preferred his food more on the spicy side which Thomas indulged in more than once to see his cheeks light up soft pink from the flavor.
But Thomas only noticed things when he was in control, thats why he loved being a personal chef when he had full control over the kitchen he reigned over. He was particular about time and schedules but somehow he learned to adjust his time for Micro who sleeps and wakes up at a later time, he was quite surprised when he was able to do such a feat because he always set the time, he always set the days so why now was he able to adjust to keep Micro comfortable?
The question always burned in the back of his mind and one night he finally found out why changing came so quickly to him when it came to Micro.
It was midnight on a saturday, Thomas wasn't praticularly a light sleeper but easily woken up if needed. He softly slumbered in his bed, wrapped in his blanket before he felt something pull down the warm comforter away from his shoulders. He groaned in his sleep, the breeze of the cold air conditioning made him shiver slightly.
"Thomas.. Hey.. You up?"
The question sounded better in Micro's head as he gently taps on Thomas' shoulder, prompting the brunette to turn his body as he slowly opened his eyes to see the faint figure that stood above him in the darkness of his room.
"Micro? It's 3 am.."
Thomas murmured under his breath, sitting up right along side a soft yawn escaping his lips. He couldn't explain why he wasn't upset over being woken up at this time yet as his eyes adjust to the dim light of his room the sight of Micro's messy white hair, sleepy eyes and pursed lips made it clear why he didn't exactly mind being awake at this late hour.
For a moment the sound of the faint air conditioning filled the room, a stretch of silence before Micro softly speaks up, his clothes almost louder than his own voice.
"Yeah uh.. sorry for waking you up I just.. wanted to ask if you could make me some fried rice real quick?"
Micro wasn't sure why in the world he would be asking Thomas to make him a meal at this hour, there were clear ulterior motives but neither of them were gonna bring it up since Thomas had vowed to make him anything he wants at anytime as his private chef.
Without another word Thomas shuffles out of his bed leaving Micro a little surprise he didn't protest or question him. Thomas had made it clear time and time again that he was very strict about his schedules so seeing him wordlessly stand up and walk to the kitchen for Micro was a rare sight.
Fried rice, a simple classic that is quick and easy to make, had become a comfort food to Micro ever since Thomas had cooked it up for him. But it's not like he had never eaten fried rice before, Saps loved fried rice too and frequently made a bowl or two whenever he hung around his beloved twin but he hated the way Saps put too much garlic, the rice was too sticky for him to eat properly and worse of all is when he starts bringing up the fact he should eat more. Micro loved the way Thomas cooked his fried rice, the rice wasn't too chewy it was soft and the garlic was just enough for him not to gag, he also loved it when Thomas would ramble about fun facts on the benefits of fried rice, distracting him from the growling feeling in his stomach.
Micro stood at a distance from Thomas, watching him cook the dish deep in thought. He wished to learn how to make it, feeling guilty for waking him just to make some simple fried rice, it was pathetic that at his grown age he only ever learned how to pick up his phone and order some online take out.
Thomas had noticed the white haired man closely watching the way he cooked, he knew that look, it was a curious look he had seen it time and time again every single time he would cook this particular dish. He knew that Micro wanted to learn how to cook something on his own, the faint defeat in his eyes with the underlying self loathing he has been ignoring of the fact that his twin brother had to hire a private chef for him.
"You know I can always teach you how to cook fried rice. It's pretty simple and straight forward anyways."
A dumbfounded look painted Micro's face, did Thomas just read his mind or something? He opened his mouth to say something yet no words seem to sound right as Thomas looked at him with understanding. Micro had no intention of declining that offer being it was better than constantly waking Thomas up in the middle of the night just to watch him cook fried rice over and over till he learnt it himself.
"Yeah I would love to learn how to cook it for myself."
Thomas' instructions were simple, enough for anyone to understand. It started off fairly easy with washing the rice and preheating the pan, Thomas verbally guiding Micro through each step. Micro was never a fan of being told how to do a certain activity, giving him written instructions was better than actually teaching him how to do anything because of his unintentional pride, he was the type to always go at his own pace but as Thomas directed Micro on the way he held the cooking pan made him more than willing to make a few mistakes or two.
"Woah, careful don't hold the pan like that. It's safer to be away from the pan to lessen the risk of the hot oil jumping at you. Here let me just.."
A gentle hand guided Micro from behind, Thomas' hand over his as he corrects his fingers away from the inner handle. For a moment it was just Thomas helping Micro out by looking out for him but suddenly the atmosphere changed, Thomas' breath just shy of Micro's right ear, his voice more softer now as he stands directly behind Micro continuing to guide him by physically mirroring how he wants Micro to do it.
Thomas chest pressed lightly against Micro's back, Thomas proceeds to teach Micro how to carefully dice the garlic reassuring him that doing it slowly is better than getting a cut on his finger. Micro tried his best to focus, trying to retain all the information that Thomas was teaching him but feeling the soft pulse against his back and the auburn's voice walking him through the entire process.
Eventually they both plate the dish together, one plate with two spoons as Micro thanks Thomas for teaching him how to cook fried rice, an apology or two for waking him up dozens of times.
"See? Quick and easy like I said, you should of told me sooner you know, it was fun teaching you."
Thomas smiled tenderly watching Micro take a spoonful of the fried rice he had made with him. It was easy to get lost in the serious works of cooking, gripping onto the control he had alone in the kitchen but when it came to Micro, cooking wasn't just his job but a way of caring and letting the process flow with the motions without clearly thinking of the underlying meanings of it all. He was just glad he could be the person to show Micro that it isn't scary to feel full.
"Yeah and I'm sure you had fun watching me flinch at the oil jumping in the pan.."
Micro sighed softly as he swallows his work, satisfied and proud he was able to make such a dish. He felt a sense of freedom, it made him feel less like a helpless patient in his own home, Thomas being the one to teach him about this feeling made his heart jump more and more, showing him a glimpse of the tender more personal side of Thomas.
โโ .โฆ
Professionalism was an invisible line that was rarely ever acknowledged, Micro just treated Thomas like he was his roommate even if he was getting paid to be in Micro's kitchen. But there was an early line they wordlessly set where they wouldn't share a meal, always eating at different times and different places. This early routine wasn't anything special neither was it bad but given the fact that Micro already had the history of barely eating when he was alone that dynamic gradually shifted to the point where Thomas stopped separating their plates from the table.
Micro easily forgets he has to eat, often lost in whatever activity he's doing moreover today in particular. Thomas noticed that Micro had skipped breakfast, it was odd but he remembered Micro mentioning that he'll be busy today in his home office so he doesn't pry any further until the clock hit lunch hour.
Thomas hardly ever disturbed Micro, this was his space after all but when it came to his health and eating habits he had partial rights to keep Micro from losing too much weight on his watch. He glances at the untouched plate from this morning and decided to repurpose the cooked dish, plating it into a bowl, he was somewhat reluctant knowing what he was about to do was more or less invading Micro's space but his intentions were in the right place anyways.
Walking up to the door Thomas noticed it was way too silent, he didn't hear the familiar clicking of Micro's keyboard neither the sound of his soft frequent tired sigh. Again his mind hesitated but his body knew better but to waste time on pondering over multiple scenarios, leading Thomas to quietly knock out of courtesy before pushing the door open.
To no one's surprise the auburn is greeted with the sight of his sweet client dead asleep on his chair, his stomach weakly growling as he slumbers through his hunger. This wasn't the first time Micro has fallen asleep on his office chair, he had spent many days like this waking up with an aching back but it was Thomas who always hesitated to wake Micro, he wasn't in the position to do thatโ is what Thomas would have said if he wasn't tired of watching Micro be a zombie in his own house, he knew eventually that someone was going to have to help him out of his bad habits, if not his twin brother who hired Thomas in the first place then he will, besides Micro wasn't ever really bothered about his straight forwardness it was almost like he liked it when Thomas called him out on his bad habits.
"Micro.. Hey you haven't eaten since this morning.."
Thomas tried to gently wake the white haired man, his hand giving his shoulder a light nudge but all he recieved was a sleepy groan from Micro, protesting against the idea of getting up from his exhausted position no matter how much his back is practically screaming at him. As frustrating as it was Thomas couldn't help but chuckle, finding it more cute no matter how difficult Micro can be. He takes a moment to think of how he can both get Micro to eat and convince him to rest better in his room rather than dealing with the nagging pain he will inevitably get once he wakes up. An idea comes to mind as Thomas moves closer, slightly leaning forward towards Micro's ear as he carefully pushes a white hair strands on the back of his ear, shifting to whisper something.
"I know you're tired and I also know your back is gonna kill you once you really wake up butโ"
He pauses for a moment as he notices Micro slightly open his heavy eyes, drowsy as he stares at him to continue, Thomas scoffs lightly as he continued to whisper his promise to Micro.
"If you just eat a few spoons.. I'll carry you to bed so you can rest properly."
It was an honest promise, Thomas was willing to do anything if it meant Micro would be okay, he didn't know why exactly he felt like that whether he just grew to care for Micro more as his private chef or maybe it was because Micro treated him as more than just a chef at times. Micro gave into the sweet deal as he pushes himself upright, sluggish but enough for him to hold a spoon, he takes a few spoons before putting the spoon back down. He looks at Thomas, quietly staring with sleepy but eager eyes just waiting for Thomas to hold up his end of the deal.
Thomas was gentle, soft, softer than the rice he cooked. Micro always melted into that softness as he felt his body be lifted so carefully into the auburn's arms. He leaned his head against Thomas' shoulder, the smell of the kitchen still fresh on his clothes. Comfort was somewhat rare to Micro, he had a loving twin brother for sure but Saps barely had the time to comfort Micro while dealing with his own issues. Being deemed a loner wasn't bad at all in fact Micro loved living alone to do whatever he wants but ever since Thomas slowly became a part of his daily routine he noticed how lonely he truly was. He had friends and family to keep him company but something about Thomas' presence felt different out of all of them maybe it was the straightforwardness Thomas presented that forced him out his clouded habits, making him see that he can do better as long as he was willing to try.
Not long after Thomas was able to settle Micro in his bed, the sudden lack of his warmth made Micro pout slightly but he knew he couldn't be too greedy about the things he wanted. His bed was cold compared to the warm feeling of Thomas' chest against his body, a few traces of his fingers helped with the shape of his built body had helped with the comfort as well. He heard Thomas whisper something in his ear before he lightly felt the soft touch of his hand caress a strand off his face as he was tucked in childishly.
"Rest well Micro.."
โโ .โฆ
It has been one full year since Thomas first became Micro's chef, it had been long enough that Thomas stopped considering himself as a personal chef but his roommate and friend so did Micro. It was a quick discussion and decision between them, it was just a formality at that point, they had been spending time with eachother like they had been roommates their entire lives like they had been in college together when it's only been a year.
Micro's health and habits improved so much, he was glad that Thomas was there with him through everything up to now if it wasn't for him he'd probably be rotting his life away once more in his little bubble. But there was still one thing that didn't change, the tension and underlying meanings of private moments they shared that they refuse to acknowledge, setting it aside as just normal friendly behavior though thinking cuddling with your private chef, sharing food like it was a dinner date and refusing to leave eachother's side as being normal then the problem must be you right?
There were close calls, moments of weakness between them that they quickly snapped out of still not being able to accept that there is something more beneath it all. It was obvious, neither of them were hiding how they felt at all but there was still a line they refused to cross yet, not when Thomas has a contract. Micro felt differently towards that, there wasn't anything inherently wrong with their feelings, they were valid with how much time has passed and ever since the first few months it was prominent that one way or another one of them would feel like this now on the other hand there was Thomas, he knew nothing was wrong even he wanted whatever they had to continue but there was a deep ridden fear that Thomas could be reading everything wrong, what if Micro wanted this for the added benefits and not truly for who he was?
Even in his fantasies, he can't commit to believing that there were no ulterior motives behind Micro's feelings.
There was an incident that led up to all of those fears being exposed, a simple lean towards a kiss that Thomas ran from like a scared child, it took Micro by surprise but moreover concern, from the way Thomas looked at him he thought everything was okay maybe the communication wasn't there but Micro wasn't blind to the way Thomas looked at him so why now was Thomas running away?
The distance grew bigger and bigger, dinner together slowly disappeared as Thomas went to bed early then followed lunch seemingly was kept short and breakfast seemed to be served in bed without any further words. Days were starting to blur with their fun, lively routine turned monotone once more, as if it was still their first months together to add to that flavors began to change, his soups felt saltier than usual, slices being more uneven and sluggish with their cuts worst of all is the fried rice, his comfort food didn't taste the same anymore both whenever Thomas cooked it and when Micro attempted to whip it up. The rice felt too stiff at times, in others the garlic was just too little for no more flavor and Thomas would tak longer as he began to get cuts on his fingers more and more.
Something had to change.
Had to be said for them to finally face the music they deafened in their ears and if Thomas was willing to runaway from it then Micro was more than glad to run with him if it meant he could close this growing distance.
Thomas was preparing for dinner as per usual with previous bandages wrapped around his fingers from the constants slip ups he's been dealing with. He was unsurprisingly frustrated, nothing was suppose to change it was just an honest mistake so why did he keep running away, he could simply go up to Micro and talk about it but whenever it would happen his sight would suddenly tunnel, his throat becoming drier than the desert when Micro looked at him with questions in his eyes. His mind has been so clouded lately he felt completely helpless towards it becoming worse and worse that cooking was becoming a battle, he was starting to lose the control he once had in the kitchen, flavors were starting to become dull or too much never right anymore.
Why?
Why was it so hard to gain control again?
He had hands of his own so why did he miss when his hand was over Micro's backhand?
He was able to memorize recipes as if they were the alphabet so why did he prefer to hear Micro's voice reading out the entire process to him?
Whyโ
"You're going to cut yourself again at this rate."
Micro's hand reached for his wrist, the carrot he had been cutting was diced completely and he was about to cut his fingertip without even realizing it. The white haired man loosens his grip, letting Thomas put the knife down, his breath was shallow, he was overthinking again wasn't he? His mind was else where as Micro was staring daggers at him though he refused to look, he still wasn't in the right state of mind, not fully focused on what truly mattered. He quickly cleaned up the counter, making himself look busy to Micro who wasn't budging from his spot, he knew that only meant he wanted to talk about something and it was obvious what that something is.
"You know you can't keep ignoring me right? We're living in the same house after all."
Micro stepped closer into Thomas space giving him zero chances of escaping, his pale hand going to turn off the stove prompting Thomas to also reach for it to turn it back on but his tanned hand was now caught by Micro, his wrist once more gripped tightly. Micro pinned him against the counter each arm in between his torso while Micro's body caged him from running away. Thomas looked at Micro's determined look, the look that he couldn't avoid this anymore, he swallows a lump in his throat a soft gulp echoing the dimly lit kitchen. Micro felt the way Thomas' heart jumped in his chest as he pressed closer, his eyes not daring to leave Thomas' dark brown eyes, a color that he has grown familiar to.
The tension thickened, a whole year without ever acknowledging is existance now pushed to the brink as they silently looked at eachother with feelings about to burst out eachother's chests. Thomas' mouth opened for a moment before he was cut off by Micro.
"What is making you run away Thomas? I know we've both been ignoring this mystery relationship we've developed but at least tell me what's making you scared, I'm right here, I've always been here.."
A light guilt settled on Thomas' chest for not communicating with Micro properly, his fear was louder than his true feelings which made running from this easier than facing it. Micro's intense stare made his lips shudder a little as his heart kept getting louder and louder in his ear that he was sure Micro could feel it too with how Micro pressed himself against his chest.
"I.. I was scared alright? I don't know why but I tried to push down my anxiety about having something with you, I've always had that underlying worry that maybe you just wanted me for the chef part and not truly me and that untreated fear made me cave in, making distance easier than confronting it.. I'm sorry.. Iโ"
Thomas was cut off with the growing grip of Micro as he started to lean closer to the brunette.
"Seriously Thomas? I can tell you aren't joking but we have spent nights in a shared bed, shared meals, stories, secrets and a whole bunch more that a chef and client aren't even suppose to do in the first place, you've taken care of me as your friend, helped me through so much and you decided to listen to your fears rather than the louder actions we've done together? I admit the almost-kiss was straightforward of me but god Thomas if it wasn't for how you looked at me I wouldn't have assumed but if that's how you feel I'm okay with working this out together, I get it okay because I truly want something more with you, you make me feel like the best version of myself and you were the reason why I've improved so much through out the entire year so we can take thing slow andโ!"
Warm lips hovered ever so closely against Micro's mouth, a half second pause that made Micro hold his breath. Thomas let his breath mingle with the pale skinned man, a moment of hesitation? A teasing gesture? Whatever it was made both their hearts beat in a fast but synced motion. His lips land on the soft pad of the white haired man's lips causing Micro's grip to weaken giving Thomas the opportunity to lay his hand on the other man's waist, gentle but a firm and commanding hand even when his hand was shaking and his heart was pounding.
The kiss was sensual, a kiss that tells a million words that neither of them could ever say to eachother, a motion that made Micro feel light headed and knee weak. Both their eyes closed an focused on the slow longing kiss but Thomas couldn't help take a peek at the man who stood infront of him, lips connected to his, eyes half lidded in a haze before he closed them again, pressing his lips harder on the other with his hand pulling Micro impossibly closer. The motion made their teeth clash, a quiet yelp escaping both of them but it didn't ruin the moment but it was a moment of soft laughter at their clumsy love as they pull eachother in once more, smiles on their faces as they connect pulses.
With the human limit of oxygen they pull away, a sigh escaping Thomas' lips while Micro tried to catch his stolen breath. The room that was filled with intense pressure now melted into a fuzzy warmth that neither of them can surely explain. A comfortable silence echoed, no more tension kept their hearts strained as their eyes were locked onto eachother, a wordless conversation between two soul that have learned to face the invisible line they finally decided to cross. The kiss still lingers on their lips, ironically the taste of leftover fried rice left other their tongues with the sweetness of overly honeyed maple tea, Thomas scoffs at the dazed look on Micro's face lost in the deep dark of brown eyes.
After a whole year Thomas finally understood why he was so quick to adjust for Micro, it was clear that Micro made everything feel complete, replacing the never ending battle of control over everything. While Micro finally believed there was something beyond the walls he built for so long, guided by the starry freckles he so loved he learned to reach farther knowing he wasn't alone anymore.
The young night went on to playful fits of laughter and peaceful moment of quiet conversations they knew would only stay between them forever. Tangled in warm blankets and restless questions put the rest the distance closed as they held hands beneath the covers, shoulders against one another while they watch a show together as the world slept and became their oyster with boundless possibilities they were ready to face, together.
"I think you should tell your brother to stop sending me checks now that I'm, you know.. Your boyfriend and all."
"Yeah I probably should but.. that can wait, I wanna finish breaking bad with you."
