mopple shows love by telling comforting lies for his friends and making himself a shoulder to cry on even when the other sheep don’t even remember what they’re upset about. every so often, a little truth slips through and he has to scramble to cover it up. eventually, his lies fall apart and he has to admit to the isolation that acting this way has caused him. (“you’ve carried this alone all this time?” “yes.”)
sebastian shows love by making his friends confront uncomfortable truths and forces them to keep their memories of george. all the while claiming that he’s separate from the flock, not acting as a source of comfort at all. yet, every so often, this facade is chipped at and he reveals he’s much kinder and willing to give grace than first appears. then the scene with the dogs forces him to drop his pretences and admit to his attachment to lily and mopple (“why did you come back?” “you’re my flock.”)
equal opposites with lily in the middle impressing them with her smarts, while also learning Deeper Truths from both. you get what i’m saying here???

Never Learned - Gator Days
...the alt text?
Ray Bradbury wrote a short story in 1950 set on august 4th 2026 called There Will Come Soft Rains… today is your only day to read it on the day it was set
here’s a link for everyone!
All k9 dogs are abused hands down if you post any pro k9 stuff on my dash you’re unfollowed I don’t care if we’ve been mutuals for years, you can claim to be anti-cop or a leftist or whatever but if you post k9 dogs with like “a good doggo! A good boy!” fuck off, if I lose followers over this then good riddance
It’s ALSO worth saying that police dogs serve a significant role in worsening police brutality. A dog trained to attack a human will maim them. A cop looses a police dog on someone, and that person is expected to peacefully cooperate while a dog is trying to tear their limbs off. It is very easy for those massive wounds to get infected. It is an absurd amount of violence. And beyond the initial attack, the fact that a “poor sweet innocent doggo” did this is used to excuse that brutality in court. Especially if the victim, panicking in the moment, lashed out at the dog. As this website has demonstrated many times, majority-white juries have more sympathies for injured dogs than the people of color who are most often victims of police brutality. So they’re not just systemic animal abuse, they’re also a tool for increased police brutality and to excuse

Lord of the Flies (2026) - An Honest Review
Yes, I know I'm very late to the party; this series came out back in February. But better late than never I suppose.
My qualifications for talking about LotF are that I explained the concept of fanfiction to my 10th grade English teacher back in 2013/2014 because I wanted to tell her that I loved LotF so much that I was reading so much fanfiction of it on ff.net (this was back when ppl still posted fic on ff.net). Anywayyy, my thoughts on the 2026 series:
The main theme, original scoring, and music used throughout the series was really good and I think the music helped to set the tone of the story really well! Especially the church choral music! Organized religion, faith, spirituality are all very important concepts and themes in this story, so it's important the music should reflect that.
Sound mixing and sound editing were excellent!
The visuals were beautiful and stunning! I saw that they used a special kind of camera to capture the eerily red trees for the nighttime scenes because they weren't actually allowed to film at night, so like it's not a special effect, it's the special camera they used to capture the "nighttime" footage which made the trees look red on camera. Fascinating stuff. Really dramatic and epic cinematography.
All of the young actors were super talented and impressive! Especially Winston Sawyers as Ralph!
Obligatory acknowledgement that Simon and Roger are whitewashed once again in this adaptation, which is disappointing but ultimately not very surprising at this point. I do think that Jack & Roger both being white blond boys and Ralph being mixed/Black in this version of the story creates a very interesting dynamic that feels more relevant to current events than if Roger was dark and Ralph was fair (as they are described in the book). Still, I really would've liked to see my baby boy Simon with his deep tan skin and coarse black hair (as he is described in the book). No offense to the young actors of course, they all did a brilliant job and their performances were extremely compelling and engaging!
I know this might be a controversial opinion, but I really enjoyed all of the additional backstory scenes and flashbacks. I enjoyed seeing Ralph interact with his parents and all of the Jack/Simon stuff. These flashbacks and new backstory information really make the boys feel like fully-fledged complex characters as opposed to being simple allegorical devices.
While I do question some of the writing decisions in this new updated version of the story (ex. giving some of book!Ralph's lines to Piggy instead and giving some of book!Piggy's lines to Ralph? the personality swap? not sure how i feel about the Ralph/Piggy dynamic in this series in general but that might be a separate post), I think overall it's very good and serves as a relevant update to the existing story. The version of this story that we need in 2026 as the entire world struggles with this new rising wave of fascism and fascist violence in our governments and society as a whole.

Have you seen Himesh Patel in something before?
Yes (positive)
Yes (neutral)
Yes (negative)
No
Patel is one of the leads of Ryan Coogler's upcoming X-Files pilot.
Also while I was researching this poll, I found out he has the same birthday as Mulder (and me).
Hot take incoming but no one deserves to be tortured. No one deserves to be mutilated. I don't care who it is, could be the worst most monstrous evil abusive person on Earth, and I would still say they don't deserve to be tortured. They don't deserve to be mutilated. People talk big and bad on the Internet, but I don't think people realize how mentally far gone and emotionally detached you have to be to kill and dismember another human being with your own hands. Literally doesn't matter if the person is Hitler 2.0 or an innocent person, the mental and emotional detachment required to chop up a human body and stuff the bloody gory pieces into garbage bags is the same. People who torture and mutilate are not heroes and should not be walking free, they are mentally ill and need intervention. If you can justify torture in one case (vigilante justice against a socially acceptable target), you'll be more willing to accept justification for torture in another case (normalization of state-sanctioned violence and torture against any group). But if you say this on Instagram, they call you a pedophile and tell you that you need your hard drive checked.
Edit: forgot to emphasize my most important point here, and the thing that bothered me the most about that Instagram comment section acting like this kid was a hero. If someone is capable of killing, dismembering, and stuffing the bloody gory pieces of a Bad Person into garbage bags with their own hands, they are just as capable of doing that to an innocent / Good Person who definitely doesn't "deserve" it. The kid is mentally unhinged and violent. He just happened to choose an acceptable target for his violence.

people in my replies arguing for their fav white guy???
CRITICAL THINKING QUESTIONS:
1. Do you think a post pointing out an issue with fandom racism and misogyny is an appropriate place to bring up your favorite white male character? Why or why not?
2. Did this post call you racist for relating to a white male character? If you thought or think so, consider why you got defensive.
3. Think about the disproportionate amount of art and writing about white male characters in fandom spaces. Do you think this is, across all boards, due to them being written better or more relatably than the POC protagonist?
a. If so, consider why you notice the writing of white male characters more often. Are white male characters written "better" than the POC protagonist, or do you have an internalized fear of relating to non-white characters that you need to work through?
b. If not, consider what ingrained biases might lead to this phenomenon in fandom spaces.
c. If you read a. and thought that white male characters literally just are usually or always written better than the POC and/or female protagonist, accept you are wrong and consider some self reflection.
4. Have you researched how to write and draw characters that are non-white and/or non-male? If not, does this limitation lead you to gravitate towards characters you feel "qualified" to make content about, therefore inflating the issue?
5. If people are telling you to reconsider your point of view in my replies section, did you stop to consider what they said apart from your human instinct to be defensive? Have you considered that arguing against those trying to educate you about fandom racism and misogyny, which can be difficult to see in yourself, in the notes of a post talking about fandom racism and misogyny, might be short-sighted and counterproductive?
6. If you are inclined to defend your favorite white male character, pause. Are all of your other favorite characters also majority white? Are they majority male? Are they either of these and NOT the main character of the show, movie, or game they originate from?
a. If not, this comic is not for you. Please move on and give it a reblog if you're feeling generous.
b. If so, consider this pattern. If you want to break it, ask someone for a reccomendation for characters or media similar to your favorites. Expand your horizons, and engage with your community rather than fighting against them.
“what does the woman who shaves gain from not shaving” i don’t know, an extra 3+ hours of free time a week? peace of mind and comfort in her femininity? not having nicks and cuts and ingrowns all the time? having a healthier skin barrier? do people think at all whatsoever before saying shit on my posts?

shaving isn’t even like remotely close to the biggest issue feminism needs to tackle but it’s just astonishing to me how the most lukewarm bare minimum of normalizing natural body hair on women is met with such pushback from “progressives” on here. like that’s why i keep bringing it up. like if you fucks can’t get behind “women shouldn’t feel like they have to shave and shouldn’t be groomed into shaving” then what the hell can you be counted on for? nothing, clearly
a simon for this series!
