BIGGER. SMALLER. FUNNIER. 

Scott Patt is an impressively productive man. When he’s not keeping busy as designer and creative leader for the likes of Nike and Converse, he’s thinking and painting up a storm. In 2014 Patt undertook his biggest creative challenge yet, ‘Bigger. Smaller. Funnier.’ Each day Patt ideated, sketched and painted an original painting culminating in 369 paintings, thousands of ideas and 800 pages of sketches each exploring concepts we can all connect with; love, faith, sex, purpose and happiness.

Together with Scott, U Studio have curated a collection of cards and giftware that celebrate the very best of Patt’s project. The collection is fun, full of colour, humour and art.

Mauro Gatti’s bold and colourful work focuses on the light, bright and humorous. Inspiration for his funny designs come from various magical sources such as the almighty internet, italo disco music and pretty much every funny thing he comes across. 

We’ve collaborated with Mauro on a playful card range full of illustrations that will brighten up any shelf, mantlepiece, fridge or occasion.

What advice would you give to other artists? 

Style is more important than fashion. 

What’s your art-world pet peeve? 

Self-proclaimed artists. 

If your studio was on fire what would you save first? 

My Ed Emberley books collection. 

Where’s the best place you’ve been? 

The Amalfi coast (in italian: Costiera Amalfitana). 

What’s the strangest thing you have ever done? 

Added pineapple to pizza (in Italy it’s considered blasphemy). 

What would you put in room 101?

Every person who believes to be superior to another. 

What’s the last thing you ate? 

Waffles with cashew butter and strawberry jam. 

What’s your favourite album to work to? 

The Temper Trap - Conditions.

Saskia Wariner -  saskdraws - is a New York based cartoonist, illustrator and GIF artist. We’ve recently released a card and giftware collection showcasing some of our favourite Saskia illustrations. Her work is cute, fun, girly and pretty irresistible. Saskia is definitely one to watch! 

We interviewed her to find out what makes her tick ⏰ 

What advice would you give to other artists?  Be yourself, always. 

What’s your art-world pet peeve? When it gets competitive, especially in the freelance world. I think everybody has a place and collaboration takes you much further.  

If your studio was on fire what would you save first? My computer, original artwork and a Moomin coffee mug

Where is the best place you have been? Watching an old French movie in a park in Paris. 

What’s the strangest thing you have ever done? Posting a profile picture of me on Facebook, that I photoshopped. I made myself thinner with the liquifying tool but I was also standing in front of a staircase…  

What would you put in room 101? Thunder, blood, bugs, my laundry, a scale, the dentist (ordered from least scary to most scary). 

What’s the last thing you ate? Cream cheese on Wonderbread 

What’s your favourite album to work to? I love listening to podcasts whilst I’m working. Currently ‘WTF’ and the new ‘Binge Harry Potter’ podcast

Hello! Katy here, I thought i would share some of my current favourite things with you:

I will start out with my top podcast of the moment, which sets me up for a fruitful studio day. Its “This American Life” and its awesome. Each episode takes a title like “it’ll make sense when you're older” and then has a few interesting stories based on the theme.

If I'm in more of a tuneful mood, I'm currently slightly obsessed with a band called "The Lemon Twigs", especially the song "These Words" which I actually can’t stop listening to, if not that some old school Kanye would be just as good.

Ive just started a new project, collaging in my studio/ kitchen. I have to shout out my main man Matisse for starting off my love affair with cutting paper, but some of my current favourite illustrators and designers out there are Karl Joel Larson, Jordy Van Nieuwendijk and Antti Kalevi, who are all super cool!
