I'm losing my shit, I was trying to find a proper translation for ĻĪæĻ Ī²Ī»Ī±ĻζίΓικο bc for some reason the words 'souvlaki place' sound ridiculous to me, and this is what Google threw at me.

With fires raging on multiple different fronts, I'd like to encourage my Greek followers and anyone else who might be in Greece at the moment to stay safe and take care of themselves. Last summer's memories are still raw, so I'm hoping you're all safe and sound ā¤ļøā¤ļø

Itās been a while!Ā
Iāve been missing this blog terribly so I decided to try and motivate myself to start posting again. Iāve also decided to do a little revamp, which will include small things like changing the header (seeing how we have a new govāt now, so no more Alexi the Sexy :ā( ) and some bigger things like fixing links, tags and the overall content of this blog.
Iād like this to be a fresh new start for this blog, and Iāve decided to focus a lot less on serious politics (even less than I already have) and more on some fun and light-hearted stuff! Greek history will always be a big part of this blog, but Iād like to approach everything from a more relaxed and easy-going perspective - which was what I had in mind when I first made this blog.Ā
Itās been over a year since I last posted and I find I've changed quite a lot since then! So Iād like for this blog to change as well - for the better, if possible!
See you around!
~Maggie
Edit: Also forgot to mention that I might have accidentally cleared my entire askbox when I last logged in.. so I guess itāll be a fresh new start in that respect too.. :ā) If you had ever sent me an ask and never saw it being answered, Iām so very sorry! Feel free to re-send whenever you want!

You've probably answered this question a lot, but I was wondering if you had any advice on learning Greek? My grandparents live in Crete so I thought it would be a good idea to learn the language...
Hey there!
Regular and organized practice is key when learning a new language! Gendered languages can be particularly tough sometimes, but once you get the hang of it, itāll all come p naturally! Vocabulary could also be sth you might wanna invest some extra time in, seeing how a word can hold many different meanings in Greek, and be used in varying contexts.Ā
Additionally, if you have anyone you could talk to in Greek, thatād be swell! PronunciationĀ can get a bit tricky, but itās nothing that canāt be managed after some oral practice! So donāt be afraid to ask yourĀ grandparents or relatives for some tips, Iām sure theyād love to help!
Donāt be intimidated by grammar or syntax! As challenging as they look, once youāve gone through some basics, itāll all start making sense! Adjective and adverb formation are super important and youāll probably have to spend some extra time on those! Thatās also the caseĀ with verb endings!
Finally, (and thatās sth that my German tutorās always telling me) one common mistake made by teenagers and adults when trying to learn a new language, is that we always try to translate all those fancy words into our target language bc weāre trying to sound more mature and formal. That, however, can be difficult bc we might lack the vocabulary to do so. So basically, try to keep it simple at the beginning and donāt feel bad if youāre finding it difficult to communicate your exact thoughts at first. Greek has a pretty vast vocabulary, but if you set a goal to learn some new words every week, youāll definitely make great progress!
Hope that answers your question! You can also go through this post for some extra links and resources! Good luck <3Ā
