If you follow me you need to understand that I like to blog about a few things:
Table Top Role Playing Games- I should, I've been playing them for ages. I started when I was 10 and well, let's say it's been 30+ years.
Furry stuff - I love soft ocs, cute designs, and general fluffery...or scales. Depends really. But Dragons, Kobolds, and weirder hybrids do get my attention.
Tokusatus - I spent my early years in Japan. I grew up watching Skyrider, Super-1, Ultraman 80, etc. It dates me but I never losts the taste for these shows.
Mecha - I also grew up with GodSigma, GoLion, the original Gundam among many others. Super/Real/etc I have a love of it.
Yo-Yo's - I'm a thrower. I enjoy it as something I do to relax.
Fantasy/Sci-Fi novels - Bibliophile and proud.
Transformation - Art, stories, etc. I just enjoy the idea of becoming and living as something "other".
Trans/Non-Binary stuff - As a local They/Them. Yo!

My first stygian, Marceau! He's a diva, but his community means everything to him. He actually wears a prosthetic eye, which is a detail I'll show in an actual reference when I get around to it. But for now, his stygian and avatar forms! More info under the cut!
Sooooo uh this all started because I saw @picopepin's mettaton fanart, one thing led to another, and now I'm playing too. Main inspiration for the design was Mettaton, of course, but specfically @paintedhen's design of an older version of him that I just could not get out of my head for the life of me. Literally thought about him for a whole day or two, lol. So I decided to channel that energy into a new oc, and Stygians happened to be the outlet. But anyways! The other source of inspiration for him was the most terrifying nightmare I've had, detailed here:
"Without going into the traumatic aspects of it, it started with me waking up in a dark, almost empty room save for a bed, a closet, and a drawer. Right next to the bed was a huge window with a beautiful sunset over a parking lot surrounded by a forest. I would get out of bed, maybe fiddle with some things in the room, and then head downstairs where there was another huge window like the one before, and then explore the rest of the house before I woke back up in the bed upstairs. It happened like 20ish times before I realized that something was terribly, horribly wrong."
Obviously, he's not supposed to be terrifying like the dream, no-- rather I'm turning something that shook me to my core into something I can love and adore.
With step 1 of the figment quest, I wanted to get down both the Mettaton aspects and those of a bird known as a resplendent quetzal. Whenever I base coat patterns off of an existing animal, I will always start out with the colors of said animal, just to make sure I have the pattern down alright, hence the drastically different colors I went with in the next steps.
Step 2, I established a color palette, and since I nailed it pretty much on the first try, I didn't have to do much fiddling and tweaking with it. Step 3, I just really wanted to draw him as the subspecies that really caught my eye rather than just whatever I would actually want to change him to later down the line. I'm a sucker for lindworm-y creatures. Step 4, as mentioned before, was based off of paintedhen's older mettaton, though I tried to give him his own sense of style different than the original. I gave Marceau back some similar clothing in his official avatar form, cause I figured I could give it his own flair to make it distinct enough for comfort.
5 was definitely the most difficult of all. I couldn't figure out the perspective or the lighting myself, so I turn to blender to recreate the scene in my dream for his kingdom. I had to take a break on it for a day before finishing it cause it was causing me so many issues, but it was well worth it.
6 was my favorite, I think, mainly cause I got to draw Tella again lol. Not going to rant here about how much I'm obsessed with Nutella and Ube but they've got me in a chokehold, lol.

Attack on Picopepin!
Man. Seems my current hyperfixation on Mettaton also extended to these two, cause this is the longest I’ve spent on any one piece… I think. There’s one that may have been longer, but I didn’t have a CSP sub at the time so it didn’t track how much time I took on it. Anyways, I’m absolutely obsessed with them. Usually I don’t really care much for shipping characters together aside from my own ocs/self inserts, but these two are the Exception.
I learned soooooooo much from this. I don’t really do art studies like normal people, I just kinda… learn as I go, even on big important pieces where it’s probably not the best to try new things on. From time to time, I’ll make quick mock ups in Blender to figure out the shading, but I surprisingly didn’t have to for this! Big shoutout to my partner, Ritunn, for cheering me on as I work on this and tormenting me by telling me “Wow, you’re almost done!” every time I streamed this for them. They also named this piece for me.
This is my best piece of the year (thus far)! I’m super excited to take what I’ve learned here and apply it to future projects!
This took a total of 47 hours, 37 minutes!
Timelapse coming soon!
