she listens like a cat, to the tiniest trembles in his tones, the slightest quivering of his words, yearning to paint with them the image of what she might have been, in another world, a nightmare in black whirls && sharp claws, not caged in dresses && bows && ties, not to Lestrange, not to his greedy grin && groping hands. SHE COULD BE A NIGHTMARE.
wasn’t that power ? might ?
she could curse the world if she knew the words. she could kill a dog, maybe, kill some bugs on her way, but those were accidentally incidents, once at a time maybe, she could claw in someone’s skin, yes, but what use was it if red pearling blood dried away && skin closed as easily over the wounds as if nothing ever had been.
( wasn’t that weakness ? )
&& him, staring, staring as if
he would not bleed, did not feel
her ( weakness ) P O W E R.
red stained pale cheeks in hectic patterns, swirled over her neck to her chest, heaving under breaths, excited as a shark to see blood, curious like a child almost again. almost, almost bellatrix feels like stretching out gaunt fingers once again, press hard against the small
scratch to see what would happen ? does it hurt, cousin, did it hurt, now, now ?
it is a mere warning for now, a nervous growl by a
provoked beast, maybe, you were not supposed to
look a predator in the eye, never, never, && n o w,
what now ? she had to do something, show what
she was, HAD over him. D O M I N A N C E, or
what she thought it might be. could be.
patience had always been on shortage, a dangling string with a never ending chiming of a bell,
echoes strung through her muscles as her hand rose, to hurt, to hit, yet, paused, mid air to fall back to her side. had she forgotten what she was ?
instead now, she drew her wand.
oh, you are something wretched, something horrid— & he can feel the bladed edge of fear heightening his pulse & rattling the blood within his veins. he can feel it . . . but he doesn’t care much fear —
— CAN HE IGNORE IT ?
WHAT’S THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN?
admittedly, he hosts a morbid mind, but he sees unrelenting logic. what is the worst she can do to him? they’re blood related . . . & people will talk, should she do anything more lasting than slice into his skin with sharpened talons.
those thin, dotted cuts - shallow, insubstantial, insignificant - do sting . . . the immediate instinct is to raise a hand bleached white to assess that open cheek.
indeed, he continues to stare ahead with a composure more militant than customary in a boy his age. ( ten. he was ten. )
but that militancy can only last for so long -- there is a flicker in his eye; a flicker as he directs his gaze towards her for only a second . . . the motion is fast, easily mistaken for fear, though it is not. no . . . not fear, but contempt : CONTEMPT. is it tangible ?
do you think me a fool enough to mock you openly?
we all have standards to uphold.
& so his focus returns to the wall --- but peripherals detect motion, & alarm resonates throughout his bones. fearful though he may not deem himself to be, it is instinct — especially when he knows that she will not hesitate. ( what’s the worst that could happen? )
thus his hands will come up with his palms facing her — the universal sign of blank surrender — DON’T. tension has written itself as a a toxin within his nerves, within youthful sinews . . . but dead calm echoes hollow within his voice: cautious . . . but unapologetic.
