Attitudes/Beliefs/Practices regarding Death and Dying
consider journaling about these prompts, or going through these questions with a friend, partner, or loved one:
While reading through these, ask yourself: to what extent are our reactions to the questions below influenced by our past experiences, family’s practices, religious or spiritual beliefs and our heritage?
• To what extent do you believe in a life after death?
• How was death talked about in your family?
• What most influenced your attitudes toward death?
• How significant is religion in your death attitudes?
• What circumstances would prompt you to refuse medical treatment for a dying family member? • Are you willing to be an organ donor?
• Do you want to prepare your own funeral or memorial service? What would you include?
• Are there beliefs about grief loss or death that you have changed based on new experiences?
• How well equipped do you feel to sit with others who have gone through loss? What factors make that more difficult or challenging?
If you have a letter of instruction about what you would want to happen to your body if you were to die tomorrow?
