Equestrian Empire (pony types)
Every pony having the same build and height with few exceptions in the show seemed weird considering how divided they were in the beginning and in biology.
So here is how diversity works in the Equestrian Empire.
Before unifying, the pony tribes had a strained but functional relationship.
Earth ponies were tasked with food production. This is because their magic made large scale food production more possible in barren wastelands. Which is what a majority of the old lands were. But earth magic can only work so much before a pony will collapse or loose their magic forever. That is without the help of photosynthesis, or the day night cycle.
Pegasus ponies were tasked with weather, scouting, and mail. In the old lands, pegasi were the only source of fresh water. For both the crops and ponies. Scouting was a by product of living in the clouds. Being at a height advantage constantly, made for an evident look out. Pegasus are also built for speed making mail an important task that can’t be done as quickly by the other tribes.
Unicorn ponies were tasked with the day and night cycle, but also magical defense. The issue is the average unicorn can only do baseline magic, so even with a large group of unicorns, it is still highly straining to move celestial bodies. Unicorns were also the most hunted tribe of ponies. Making their numbers few and far between. But also increased their defensive capabilities.
After uniting the population was 40% earth ponies, 40% Pegasus and 20% unicorn. Unicorns became the most protected once the tribes united, resulting in a type of upper class.
Flutter shy has earth pony in her family tree. Making her taller with a warmer color pallet. Her height is the main contributor of her weak flying.
Pinkie has unicorn in her family tree. Giving her chaos magic and is also the source of her family’s “sense’s” such as pinkie sense. It also makes her coat color stand out from her family’s more muted colors. Her family all have a unicorns build except for her mother. Who has an earth pony build.
Rarity, Rainbowdash, and apple jack. Don’t have other pony tribes in their family tree. They just have extremely large amounts of magic due to their connection to the elements of harmony.
