As an addendum to my last post about the March rental, here's a little about Holly's room in particular because I love her and I love knowing about her outside of just being her idiot father's begrudging babysitter! This time, I'm just working off screenshots rather than any behind-the-scenes sources.
I've seen some people refer to Holly's door as merely a "curtain", but it's actually an example of an accordion door--which were popular in midcentury houses.
They would be installed in various areas of the house to allow for dynamic room sizing, and they were often made of steel, vinyl, pvc, etc and even insulated; definitely more than a curtain. I think there may actually be a few of them around the March rental, but I haven't been keeping track.

Anyway, back to Holly and her room!
In my prior post, I included high res stills that showed the general layout and wall decor. We can immediately tell Holly's music tastes between the posts/prints and the little shelf of records she keeps in her room. Blondie, Joan Jett, Led Zeppelin, the Clash, the Sex Pistols, an old Billy Vaughn record, Styx, a couple ones I can't make out.
She has quite a lot of records in her own room, and they obviously get a lot of attention.
I think she may have one of those shitty little suitcase record players on a shelf? Not certain; my record players are static.
Also, she has a guitar! Big music fan, it seems.
She likes mystery novels (if her reading an Agatha Christie in the old lot wasn't enough to tell you that) and has a bunch of Childcraft illustrated encyclopedias. Worldly girl.
Also evidently likes both owls and butterflies; they're all over her room. The notepad on the fridge also has an owl motif and there's a few butterfly stickers around it. It looks like she paints or collages or something similar, as well, given the unfinished eye painting and the colourful little rainbow thing by the news clipping.
A lot of fibercraft on display; scarves, blankets, a rug-tapestry, embroidered flower art, the hand-stitched denim(?) piece on the wall, etc. Some possibly bought given the aesthetics of the 60s and 70s, some possibly made by one of the Marches. Holly also has a lot of bags (see the photo of her and Jessica standing in her doorway) and most of them are also woven or knit. I'm not a fiber arts person so can't say too much about that.
Also, cute sunglasses.
She has a Simon and what seems to be a very compact typewriter(?) in her room? I'm not sure; it's definitely electrically powered based on the cord looped around the front, and all the electric typewriters I've used are pretty bulky. Feel free to correct me if it's some other kind of machine.
She has a couple photos on her wall that are difficult for me to make out. One looks to be two people somewhere against the ocean, one seems to be a white car wrapped in a bow with two(?) people in front of it, and one seems to be an older photograph of a dark-haired pair. There's also another photo on her mirror with what looks to be a lineup of girls. My last post has a few more angles of them that may be more clear. If anyone can make heads or tails of 'em, pleeeeeeeease lemme know.
Did I just employ the "Treat Them Like You are A Kindergarten Teacher Again" method with my insurance company today? I surely did. Did it work? Probably better than intended because I made an actual doctor feel contrite.
So, my insurance has been trying to not cover my SNRI because it is new on the market and no generic available yet, so pricey.
I apply for a refill and the request gets locked for review. Again. For the 3rd time.
This time I call and immediately ask to speak to the actual doctor making these clinical decisions. Very politely. Must be a slow day because they allow it.
ME: [Teacher voice] I'm calling in regards to the SNRI you have placed a lock on. Why was this decision made?
DOC: Well, there are dozens of other medications on the market in that tier, and far cheaper for you and [insurer]. We have sent a request to your doctor to consider alternatives.
ME: I am aware of that. So, can you do me a HUGE favor and look up my prescription history really quickly and tell me how many SSRIs and SNRIs were only filled once in 2022 for me, showing they were poorly tolerated?
DOC: It looks like eight.
ME: Great job! Now, can you please look at my genetic test for psychiatric drug tolerance and tell me how many medications are listed in the safe category?
DOC: Two.
ME: Awesome! Now, can you tell me what type that other drug is that I'm not taking?
DOC: Yeah, totally, it's an MAOI.
ME: That's correct, you're really knowledgeable! Should I be taking something as dangerous as an MAOI with my other medications, or even just in general?
DOC: It's contraindicated for sure.
ME: It is! So true! So, last question since you've been incredibly smart and helpful. Is it less expensive for [insurer] to pay out for the medication knowing they already get a huge manufacturer discount anyway, or is it more expensive for them to pay for me to need potentially long-term inpatient psychiatric care?
DOC: I'll clear the code, ma'am and flag it as medically necessary. I'm sorry about this.
ME: I appreciate you SO MUCH. You have a great day now.

one laundry night they definitely start discussing how many Earth-named constellations are based on Greek myths, and then that definitely brings up the Odyssey (and how it relates to their current journey to Erid), and they spend the next week or so spinning tales and having Mary read the poem aloud and Rocky makes miniatures so Grace can act it out

When Grace dies he asks for his body to be turned to ashes, and then into a statue. The statue has him sitting, legs crossed, arms curled slightly, with his palms on his knees. He says in his final message there is a reason for this very specific positioning, but that he can't say what it is.
Time continues forward. Rocky and Adrian grow and change. They move house a couple of times. Rocky changes career from engineer, to inventor, to scientist, to diplomat, to teacher. Adrian picks up a new hobby every few decades. They explore other parts of Erid they've never seen. They meet humans on more than one occasion, but there's something about it... Something not quite right. The Eridian mind can never forget, and no matter how much time passes, Rocky feels it. Missing Grace. His human.
And then time really does move on. Rocky walks stiffly, Adrian sleeps for weeks at a time, they both eat less often due to how draining it is.
And one day, the temperature is perfect. Adrian wakes earlier than they have in years. The warmth loosens Rocky's arthritis, the wind is quiet that day, and sound can carry for miles because of it. The soil is quiet, ready, resonant. And they both know.
They go for a walk, take a dip in the sea, attend a choir in a crystal cave. And then, without fanfare, when no one else is around, they visit Grace. And Rocky climbs into his stone lap. And Adrian curls their body around Grace too. Just like Grace did hundreds of years ago, they let go, no scream, no pain, just peace and togetherness. Too beautifully intertwined to ever untangle.
And there they sit, three stones, for the rest of time.
listen. eva stratt’s biggest mistake and greatest (emotional) downfall absolutely WAS keeping a junior high school teacher nearby. not as a tertiary science officer— that was a reason, in the back of her mind, but she also Needed Him.
it’s not as clear in the movie, but eva stratt does not seem to be a scientist. at least not at the level as the others on PHM. in the book, she seems to purposefully bring grace along to various meetings because she needs his input and his translation. there are several times that a scientist will propose a solution to her, and she turns to her snarky teacher friend second in command and asks his opinion. he’s there because he is incredibly smart and, if needed, can explain things to her so she can understand. before grace? i bet she was largely doing this alone. i’m sure others would explain things to her if she asked, but it comes so naturally to grace. it’s his fucking job. it’s his second language, AND he doesn’t think less of her for it. he knows what she’s capable of, and thinks she’s still right for the job, even if the science of it all is over her head
i’m sure that it started out early, when they were still learning what astrophage was. grace was a leading mind in it, and was needed. but then she brought him along to help translate other things for her. and then because she trusted his judgement. and then because, deep down, he was her friend.
she needed the junior high school teacher around. not a tertiary science officer.
