[✱ He stuffs his hands in his pockets, watching upside-down as Undyne shifts upright. His feet are propped up on the stairs now, one slipper barely hanging off his toes.]

* alright. maybe take some iced coffee or somethin with you so you don’t pass out on your reports. pffheheh.

* don’t want be bone-tired, after all.

[✱ Of course.]

She makes a show of sighing disgustedly at his well-worn pun, but she’s grinning all the way through.

* That’s not a half-bad idea, actually. I should have a thermos somewhere....

* Thanks for the towel, Sans. Have fun tomorrow.

Levering herself up off the couch and towards the door, she glances back before she actually leaves, a vision of cloudy hair and neon orange sweatpants.

* Tell your friend they run well.

[✱ He jolts in surprise when pointed at, but then starts to grin again. Undyne always was a good boss, and a good friend. Damn, they might actually have to go shopping now. Can’t let down the boss!]

* understood, ma’am. i’ll be sure to help you slack on your shift by texting you lots of pictures.

[✱ He salutes, though he sort of misses his mark and smacks himself in the face. But he holds it! That’s what’s important.]

She twists to look at him properly and bursts out laughing, raucous and sharp.

* Alright, alright, at ease you dweeb.

A yawn interrupts her next sentence, and she heaves herself back upright on the couch to stretch. One of the threads on the sweatpants is coming loose, and she picks at it.

[✱ He snorts, again sneering at her good-heartedly. It felt good to banter with her again, after so long, even if it was.. well. Not gonna last.]

* what if it was all of those things. what if pap is taking me and the kid clothes shopping.

* but nah, yeah, i haven’t seen the kid in a while. wanted to make sure we had a good hanging-out.

* and mayyyybe i’ll go get new clothes.

She points at him without direct line of sight, and is dead accurate.

* I demand pictures. Text me pictures. Have fun. Get a new jacket, you’ve worn this one out. And give me a full report when you get back. I’ve got a full shift tomorrow and I expect it’ll be awfully boring.

[✱ He freezes mid-scoot and nearly misses the step altogether.]

[✱ Scoot scoot done. He just kinda lays there at the bottom of the stairs once he’s done, head turned towards Undyne.]

She twists a little bit to get comfortable on the couch, listening to him chatter, and then barks a laugh at his question. Doesn’t turn or move to actually look at him, just responds at the ceiling.
