“Bingo,” Loki replied in answer to Peter’s question. The kid really was as
smart as he had been told. Moreover, Peter was so excited about learning
even more that it was contagious. Loki couldn’t help but smile back, his own
gaze lighting up.
“The Bifrost was an Einstein-Rosen bridge, providing fast transport from our
realm to and from seven of the other eight. Those realms still exist, and
their names are Alfheim, Svartalfheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim, Jotunheim,
Vanaheim, and Midgard - our name for Earth. The Bifrost could not take one
to Helheim, for it is the world of the dishonored dead,” Loki spoke. “Those
being anyone who did not die in battle. It is not a cruel place, but it is not
a heaven either. Helheim is named for Hel, also known as Hela - and my
daughter.”
He took a deep breath, mentally cursing himself. He kept bringing up his
children for some reason that Loki did not want to examine more closely.
Folding his hands, he quickly changed the topic - if only to avoid the
thought he was projecting. Peter reminded him of Narfi, his dead son who
loved his father’s illusions and had a fascination with butterflies.
“What do you know about neutron stars? Thor’s hammer was forged from
the power of one,” asked Loki, guessing his brother was Peter’s favorite
Avenger besides Stark. “They are most intriguing, to me, when they turn
into pulsars.”
With the simple word ❛ bingo ❜ , Peter’s mind was racing. If Asgard had a bridge to other worlds and Loki told him he was right when he said it was like a w o r m h o l e then that totally confirmed that wormholes were portals ━ maybe not to other dimensions like he had imagined ━ but still a portal!
The boys brows pulled together in disbelief when Loki began to list all the realms to him ━ casually. Peter had grown up in a world with super soldiers, gods, and extraordinary heroes so he was completely open to the possibilities of . . . well, of the universe! But eight realms total was mind blowing! Obviously Peter was one second from packing his backpack and asking Loki to take him to all of them but he was sure May would kill him.
His wide eyes and seemingly permanent smile wavered at the mention of ❛ H E L A ❜ Peter didn’t recognize the name but he wondered where she was. Loki seemed saddened by his own mention of her and Peter could only guess that she was in Helheim? Couldn't Loki visit her?
“Uh . . . ” To be honest Peter didn’t know very much about neutron stars past the basics and he quickly found himself speechless. He had spoken to Thor a few times and the god had mentioned his hammer being made by dwarves but he didn’t say anything about a neutron star.
That was so awesome.
When Loki mentioned that he was interested in pulsars, Peter pressed his lips together, remembering when he was younger he was fascinated by black holes. The inescapable unknown that pulled everything in . . . it was around the time his parents left him with his Aunt and Uncle, but soon after he was confronted with a Hammer drone and he was saved by Tony Stark.
The sour memory turned sweet and the boy smiled, spinning a finger in the air, “the ones that spin really fast, right?”
