Maybe this will make you fucking think. You hate slut shaming, right? You hate people policing art, right? So why, when anyone creates a female character who dresses provocatively and enjoys sex is it automatically "objectification of women?" Aren't you just policing their art by slut shaming a fictional character? (Also, stop policing art, you pretentious hipster fucks.) Meanwhile, in other news: People are going to come at me with: You hate on Harley Quinn constantly. Yeah, for legitimate reasons. Many of which simply stem from the fact that I'm sick of DC shoving her down everyone's throats with marketing to the point where idiot girls hold her as a "good example" and borderline worship her. It's not about art at that point, it's about marketing, and setting an example to kids who used to, ya know, aspire to be like heroes, not abused/abusive villains. It's about the fact that an entire fandom is eroding and no other "side" characters other than the big 3 and Harley/Joker are getting merchandise and even Wonder Woman is kind of shit on for Harley in that regard. I get it, red and black are cool colors. They're power colors, the colors of the stock market, the blood of angry men and the dark of ages past, but that doesn't mean a character like that needs to be shoved down everyone's throats. I'm not saying that the art needs to stop, or that the character shouldn't exist. For me, she's the epitome of all things hatable, lying, cheating, manipulative woman who plays stupid for her abuser, who she worships but then cheats on, and then beats the shit out of him right back in several instances. She's great as a villain, but they market her like a hero. She's a great "side character" in the Batverse, but DC is neglecting a shitload of other fans to push her as a product. My complaint is that DC needs some variety in their merchandise and their marketing, not that a character shouldn't exist. STOP. POLICING. ART. Police Artists, Police Companies who keep on employees like Scott Lobdell who harass women openly at panels and on radio shows and continue to "repeat offend." And who online bully anyone who brings up that he should have been fired. Pretty much ANY other job, you get fired for sexually harassing coworkers. I know of someone who had consensual sex with an employee, where she came onto him (like hardcore, never seen someone chase the D so hard in my life, I'm autistic and couldn't misread it), but because he wouldn't date her after, got fired because she called a One-Nighter "Sexual harassment." And he got fired over it. Police policies of keeping harassing men like Scott Lobdell employed so that they can write cheesy, horrible shit with Bizarro instead of bringing in newer, fresher talent. (The last bit about his writing sucking is just my opinion, not the ultimate reason for firing him.) But for fucks sake, STOP. POLICING. ART. What Starfire looked like and did in EVERY incarnation is OKAY in ART. You're slut shaming her, you do it a lot. Power Girl choosing to have a boob window, again, fine in ART. Wonder Woman having a tube top/corset for armor, again, is fine. STOP. POLICING. ART. Police Artists, Police Policies. CRITIQUE art. Have a strong opinion, but don't accuse someone of being the sum of their characters. We wouldn't have stories of good versus evil if there weren't flaws and differences in people. And you know what? Women characters can wear whatever impractical bullshit that they want. That's their prerogative.
