We are happy to begin our second season with the seemingly unstoppable Parisian label AMI by Alexandre Mattiussi. Mattiussi’s casual touch on classic menswear injects equals parts rebel and gentleman into his FW 2015 collection. Featuring a dark palette mixed with rich fabrics (wools, corduroy and heavy cotton) AMI FW 15 has distinctly tough Parisian after-hour air to the collection. Sexy, masculine and mysterious AMI continues making an impact in our shop and with many other retailers worldwide. 

This week signals the arrival of Italian label CAMO. Mixing contemporary silhouettes with traditional textiles and tailoring, label head Stefano Ughetti has delivered another season of intelligent menswear. Our FW15 edit includes pieces from the CAMO main collection and from their ARRIVO cycling capsule. Featured above is an ARRIVO showcase from Pitti Uomo tradeshow.

FEIT has recently arrived in store and when a product this advanced comes our way we become a bit obsessed. We want to know all the processes, finishing techniques and level of soul that goes into creating goods of this caliber. Neo-luxury label FEIT arrived earlier this week leaving us all a bit speechless around the shop. The highly crafted and very limited footwear from the NYC based label has quickly won us over for it’s incredible minimalism and attention to detail. FEIT is product like no other. Currently we stock The Hand Sewn Low in Cuoio and Black and the Hiker Unlined in Cuoio.

Most mornings jazz is the order of the day on our shop sound system. Recently the multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk has made his way into daily rotation. His incredible story is as wild and as exotic as his music.  Blind since infancy Rahsaan Roland Kirk was famous for playing the tenor saxophone, the stritch and the manzello (often at the same time). Kirk always fronted his own bands with the exceptions of working with Charlie Mingus and Quincy Jones. In his career he cut 28 records and countless compilations. Immensely talented, politically outspoken and darkly funny Kirk was adored by Jimi Hendrix and later Thurston Moore. In 1977 Kirk died of a stroke at 42 years of age. Last year  filmmaker Adam Kahan released The Case Of The Three Sided Dream a feature length documentary about the life of Rahsaan Roland Kirk to critical acclaim. 

Historically in North America September is the time to buy new sneakers. Back to school and the on-set of Fall make for great justifications to add a fresh pair of kicks to your wardrobe. Today the New Balance 998 “Mid Century Modern”  arrived in store. Based on the Mid Century Modern architectural movement of the 1950s and 1960s this stand out model is constructed with a premium pigskin and textile upper. Nice vintage touches can be found with the Horween leather logo detailing. A fine fall sneaker choice, the New Balance 998 is made in the USA.    

The Standard Design FW15 shipment just arrived this week from Vancouver and includes their excellent cotton basic brands- Homespun and National Athletic. The pieces from Homespun and National Athletic (Tees, Cardigans, Henleys and Hoodies) are consistently some of our top selling items. This season’s assortment is shaping up to be one of their strongest offerings for colour and design.  

One of the most exciting moments of any season is the arrival of Engineered Garments at Understudy. The first delivery from the cult NYC label is here. This season Engineered Garments comes dark and moody with their signature twists on American sportswear and military designs. Check the first drop here

Goldie. The godfather of drum and bass. DJ extraordinaire. Bond villain. Eastenders star. Graffiti artist. Dapper British gent. His 1995 album Timeless has been resurrected and placed on heavy rotation in the shop. The sample heavy artful production found on Timeless is pure time-travel through a mid 1990′s narrative of urban London. It’s so good that even a big fancy London orchestra covered it.  Buy it here
