Herb of the Week; Rowan
This week’s blog is about another herb associated with the upcoming Sabbat known as Samhain. Rowan is an extremely beneficial plant to use in your Samhain practices. Hope this week’s blog demonstrates that.

We love providing health as well as Magickal info about Herbs when we can.
Rowan is known by many other names. Among them are Thor’s Helper, Mountain Ash and Witchwood. This herb which is sacred to the Norse god Thor is masculine in gender. It is ruled by the Sun and associated with the element of fire. Healing, Success, Protection and Psychic Powers are all Powers of Rowan.
Some Magickal uses are as follows:
Add Rowan berries to health sachets to help with recuperation.
Carrying Rowan wood is said to increase psychic powers.
Use leaves and berries in divination incense.
Tie two Rowan twigs together with red thread to form a cross. Carry as a protective amulet just like Cornish peasants and Scottish Highlanders did.
Plant Rowan on a grave to keep the deceased from haunting it.
Plant a Rowan tree near your home to protect it and the occupants within.

These might be fun to make to wear on Samhain to keep evil spirits away.
Fun fact: When split in half Rowan berries reveal a pentagram inside. This may explain why they are an excellent source of protection. Anyhow here’s hoping that you have found this week’s herb blog helpful. As always comments and questions are welcomed. Until next time be well Witches!

José Campeche specialized in portraits but also produced religious images for churches and private patrons. Here the Virgin Mary is depicted as a simple shepherdess surrounded by her flock while holding the Christ child in her lap. In the distance a lost sheep being chased by a wolf calls out “Ave Maria,” a plea for the Virgin’s help, and is saved by the Archangel Michael, who strikes down the predator. Campeche’s painting accentuates the tender protection offered by the Virgin, who keeps watch over the faithful just as a shepherdess shelters her flock.
