A pretty nice Sunday, I promised myself to start putting a little bit of more effort into they way I dress when I go out. Even though today I just went to the “Mercado” I put a little bit of effort and I actually did enjoy it, I will try to do it more often, but because I enjoy it not because I care about what others think of me. ☕️🍀⭐️💕

Halloween is probably my favourite time of the year, to be honest. I love the decorating, I love trick or treating, I love the history of it, and it's one of the first signs that nights are going to get colder and cosier (well, in this hemisphere, I guess for Australians it's a sign the days are getting longer? idk).
I have finished 34 books this month, 24 of them being novels, 8 novellas, 1 manga and a collection of short stories that I only completed today. Predominantly I did read fiction, and my biggest category was fantasy - which is really the most common one every month if I'm honest, with mystery coming in generally behind it.
This month I had five five star books and below are my reviews on each of them, I hope you find a new book to love just like I did from them!
Minor Detail by Adania Shibhli - I think what strikes me the most in this book is though the years stretch between the two parts of the story the mirroring and foreshadowing that occurs in this book is tragically remarkable. Exceptionally written and incredibly devastating, this book will leave you angry and make you sit and contemplate for some time about what you've just read and the futility of time and the lack of change that has happened for the people who live where this book is set. Check trigger and content warnings first of course, but a book that I believe is a must-read.
Within The Sanctuary Of Wings by Marie Brennan - I won't speak too much on this as this is the final book in the Lady Trent Journal series but this series truly did finish so incredibly well. With each new book Lady Trent finds and explore new varieties of dragons and in the last book she finds once a new species to explore which changes up how in the world dragons are perceived once again. I just think this series is exceptional and feel like if you love the Traders books in the Realm Of The Elderlings you might like this.
The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman - Also the fifth book in The Thursday Murder Club series, The Impossible Fortune once again sees the retirees figuring out a plot and it is brilliant. Joyce's narrative voice is genuinely one of my favourite things in this series and this story is told so fantastically by her throughout this book. It is so British and so genuinely heartwarming and brilliantly told. I am not always the biggest fan of 'celebrity' authors, but Richard Osman is such an incredible exception to the rule.
Foster by Claire Keegan - Claire Keegan has such an amazing way of threading such powerful emotions through short narratives. This story is told from the perspective of a young girl staying with relatives while her mum is pregnant and the impact of that summer on her and I just felt everything this little girl was processing and seeing the world she was seeing. For a book of 90 pages it is so incredibly impressive. I'd highly recommend all of Claire Keegan's work honestly and this one is just another I'd force into people's hands because it is genuinely a beautiful book to take in.
Goldrushes by Roberto Piumini - If your love language is acts of service, this book is going to make you cry. I read this in a hospital which probably made the emotions hit home more to be honest. The story of a young son of a nobleman is sick and is unable to see the world so as a gift his father hires a painter to paint the walls of his room and this book is the relationship built between the boy and artist and he tells him what he wants on the walls. Beautifully written, the final pages are emotionally impactful and the pictures come to life in front of you. It is truly a beautifully written story.
