Ty Velli

I go by Ty Velli. I'm a 26 year old HipHop artist from Knoxville TN. I've been writing songs since i was 15, and actually MAKING music since i was around 20 years old. I grew up in attending church almost everytime the doors were open, so that plays a big part in how I gained interest in music as a kid. My dad played 10+ instruments, and he was also the praise and worship leader at the church we went to growing up. He would show me how to operate the sound equipment, and showed me everything it did and things like that. I remember times he and our pastor would let me get up on stage and play my toy guitar along with the music, and after service was over they'd let me jam out on the drums. I was only like 7 or 8 when all that was going on, but I remember it vividly. I guess life was pretty normal for me growing up. We didn't have it all but we didn't go to bed hungry very often, and we had a roof over our head so I think we were blessed, you know? As i got older, around 12 or 13, my helped me sneak past my parents to watch the B.E.T. awards. It was pretty much a done deal from that point on. I was in awe when I really heard Hip Hop music for the first time. I begged my mom for weeks to buy me a rap cd. She finally gave in and took me to wal-mart since they sell the edited stuff. The first Hip Hop album I owned was a "Ms. Jackson" single disc with an Edited version of the song, and an instrumental version. After I learned the lyrics until I knew them by heart, i would rap them over the instrumental on side b, and eventually started to just try to come up with my own. I would say those were first time i actually wrote a song. I never really stopped after that. I was in love with Hip Hop, and all music in general. I would consider my first big influences to be Jay Z, Bone Thugz & Harmony, and Lil wayne a little later down the road. Around when I was graduating high school, me and my friends had a little home studio rigged up in his basement. We used one of those little stick microphones that used to come with computers back then. We'd play the beat on a laptop, and hold the microphone in place just close enough to where you could hear the music and our voice at the same time. It sounded terrible but we didn't care. We just wanted to rap. My parents ended having a bad falling out, and a really ruff divorce when i was like 15. That's when i started getting into alot of trouble in school and with the law, and my daughter was born around that same time so i was going through alot to be so young. I think that was really the turning point in my life that pushed me even deeper into making music. I wrote alot of songs when I was in jail, and on house arrest. It's all i could really do for a long time. After that I started looking into studio time and production, and I had a little bit of money saved up but I decided to just buy my own studio and try to learn how to do it on my own. I learned really quick how to mix and master my songs, and ended up going to college for sound engineering. Once I learned all of that i started actually releasing music. the feedback I got was crazy. People was loving it from the start so I just kept on honing my craft on the PC and on the mic. I try my best to implement my story of what I've been through in all my songs. No matter what type, or what sound im aiming for. My "Kloud 9" imprint, and brand stands for my belief that we can ALWAYS go higher in life, and there is always progress to be made, because the sky goes forever. Music is about giving people a mood, whether it be negative or positive, it can definitely change your state of mind. Almost like a kind of magic. You can't even see soundwaves but they can alter you in alot of ways. So, I try to keep the same vibe and attitude when i record that the sound of the music gives me, and relate it to the listener the best i can. There's too much thats happened in my life to fit in it a small, typed out biography. So the rest in the music...
