The only themes I refuse to take up are if the request includes: Pedophilia, Zoophilia (I do not count Furries for this so Beastars fans y‘all are safe), Incest or racist/harmful depictions of POC and other Minorities.

And I heard it happen again with some other popular fics too. And not just with Transformers, but with other fandoms too.

It always made me nervous of talking about Transformers with other people, especially on the Internet. Because it feels like one side is polite, but the other one just has criticisms or is just mean.

Please be careful out there.

I actually did not hear about that at all and so far I’ve never received any negative comments on any of my stuff.

Besides the people leaving these nasty comments in my opinion sound like teenagers. I am too old to give a damn about a 14 year old’s opinion on my writing.

And not to mention: the block button exists both on tumblr and ao3 and if someone can’t behave I have no remorse to use it.

Now I am not talking about JJK making anime more mainstream, no what I am talking is the shift in JJK’s perception by general weeb audiences.

I clearly remember that when the anime for JJK first started airing everyone kept joking “oh this is just naruto. The main characters are just team seven. And especially i remember the constant comparisons between Gojo and Kakashi. And listen Naruto was pretty much a household name back when JJK first aired. In fact these comparisons to Naruto’s cast and plot points were constant back them and JJK is not the only anime to have suffered from it.

And now, several years later the tables have flipped HARD! Now instead of every teacher character and ever male character with white hair getting compared to Kakashi, people instantly compare them to Gojo from JJK.

Like the most recent example of course being Qifrey from Witch Hat Atelier who, at least on my twitter algorithm apparently, cannot escape the “He is basically Gojo” comments. Or the constant comparisons between Qifrey x Olruggio to Gojo x Geto.

Well, a week ago I added several X-men characters to my island and here is the kicker. I am a filthy multishipper when it comes to Wolverine specifically. However: My boyfriend is a staunch Stormverine shipper and my bestie is a strict poolverine shipper. Well… as faith may have it both Mii Storm and Mii Deadpool fell for Mii Wolverine and and now my BF and BFF started a betting pool on wether or not Mii Logan would chose Deadpool or Storm as his beloved and essentially treat my Tomodachi playthrough like a science experiment to determine once and for all which Logan ship reigns supreme

Something something the girls find Olruggio collapsed in his study or in some random place around the Atelier and because no matter what they do, he does not wake up they somehow get it into their heads that clearly he must have been cursed with a sleeping spell like in a fairytale.

Thank you, anon. I am a classical archeologist by trade and in my spare time write fanfictions based on mythology and folklore, so I 100% feel you. And your message is deeply appreciate.

This will be the very last anon ask on this topic that I’ll answer to though as again it is easier and mentally healthier for me to just delete every message that mentions this movie than to read through 50 messages from Nolan fans calling me a slut or a hoping i get put in a mental facility (or worse, but I will not repeat those messages) just for the off chance of missing one nice comment. I do hope that makes sense.

I guess my very last 2 cents on this topic is that, as someone who, as mentioned earlier, also writes fiction based on folklore and mythology I absolutely understand that no adaptation will ever be 100% accurate, heaven knows my own aren’t either.

But I at least wish a retelling would TRY. Even if it fails and falters, the effort to simply try alone shows me that the creator felt passionate enough about their project and respected the source and its culture enough to do the their due diligence.

That is why for example, despite it being the polar opposite of accurate, I have nothing but praise for Epic the musical as you can tell Jorge tried and he had passion and love for what he did. Nolan’s Odyssey, above every other complaint I have just feels hollow. It’s a bombastic but void spectacle that uses a lived historical culture as mere window dressing.

It does not matter if it is to agree or disagree with me. I just want to move on and ignore this movie's entire existence until the sun burns out.

I think I have made it crystal clear that I do not like this movie. At all. And one of my biggest gripes with it, is its refusal to even TRY to be historical accurate. With the armours looking like an edgy 13 year old’s definition of what counts as cool, the ship being from the viking era (nearly 2 millenia later), nearly everyone wearing pants despite in ancient greece pants being something only “barbarians” wore etc.

Like this movie was almost tailor made to piss me off specifically by getting nearly every historical fact about ancient Mycenaean and general greek culture wrong that you could possibly get wrong.

Except for one. Homosexuality.

Anyone who’s dabbled in greek history for more than 12 seconds has probably heard the joke “The Greeks invented sex. The Romans realised you could add women to it”, and while it is a bit exaggerated, it is based in truth. Homosexuality was pretty common in ancient greece BUT, it was also used as a way to assert dominance over other men, especially younger men and even boys.

So colour me amazed when, out of ALL the things from ancient greek history that Nolan did not manage to fuck up, it was the “weaponised homosexuality” as I’m gonna call it, by having Antinous (Robert Pattinson’s character) kinda flirt with Telemachus (Tom Holland’s character).

Now i have no idea how big the age difference is supposed to be between these characters in Nolan’s Odyssey specifically, but it is pretty obvious that Antinous is older and his pretty aggressive comments which many have interpreted as “flirting”, is him using homosexuality to assert dominance over Telemachus - which I repeat, is something that was common in ancient Greece, I am not denying that.

So what I am trying to essentially get at, is that Nolan ignored all of Greece’s actual history EXCEPT the one that portrays gay people as moral deviants (and like if you have read the Odyssey, you’d be well aware that there are many other reasons and ways you could have hammered home to the audience that Antinous and the suitors are bad people).

The best comparison I can think of to explain why this feels so weird to me is: imagine if Nolan made a movie about the mongol invasion and got nearly everything wrong about it that you could get wrong. Like he’d make the Mongol characters live in Tipis, ride genetically mutated goats, communicate exclusively via throat singing and wear denim jeans. But the ONE THING in regard to historical accuracy he’d kept in was the rampant sexual assaults women experienced at the hands of the Mongolian invaders.
