Game Concept: a hunting RPG set in ancient Africa
You would play an African hunter who would make their living hunting the continent's wildlife with traditional weapons. Every time you killed an animal, you would earn points that you could spend on new weapons and equipment, repairing any damage to the equipment you already own, cosmetic items, and access to new hunting locations. Gameplay would resemble that of the old dinosaur-hunting sim Carnivores in that you would track and stalk animals on an open map while making sure the animals don't kill you first. If you die on a hunt, any points you earned on that hunt would become forfeit.
Each map would be based on a different environment on the African continent. Among these would be the Nile Valley in Egypt and Sudan, the Serengeti, the Sahel, the West and Central African rainforest, the Kalahari Desert, and the Ethiopian highlands. There would be a different set of animals you could hunt in each habitat, and there would also be scattered ruins holding treasures such as extra points or items you could claim for yourself.
Your player character would be customizable. You could pick their sex/gender and certain other physical attributes from the beginning, but as your career progresses and you obtain more points, you would be able to purchase cosmetic items such as outfits, hairstyles, jewelry, makeup, and skin markings like tattoos or scarification. These would be referenced from various African cultures throughout history, and some of them could impact gameplay as well as character appearance. For example, certain charms or amulets might affect your hunting performance, and body armor would give you better protection at the cost of speed and stamina.
Weapons would also be based on those from different pre-modern African cultures. They would include spears, javelins, various swords, throwing knives, and bows and arrows that may be poisoned. On each hunt, you would be limited to carrying one primary weapon, one sidearm, and maybe a shield for blocking animal attacks. Although most of the gameplay would have a third-person point of view like many RPGs, you would have the option of switching to a first-person view when aiming certain weapons.
Finally, if you have enough points available, you could purchase a mount to ride across the map. This could be a horse, camel, zebra, okapi, or even an elephant, and the horse and zebra could be attached to Egyptian-style chariots that would provide a stable platform for ranged attacks. However, the horse would not be available on maps set within the tsetse fly belt and the camel would be exclusive to desert maps. Upon dismounting, you would need to make sure predators don't kill your mount, or else you will have to spend points on a new one.
