Jesse was equally as moody, until the abandoned baby came in. As an ex peeds nurse, he can’t resist a baby and he spends most of his shift attending to Baby Jane Doe. Being a nurse he knows how broken the foster system is and Brandon grew up in foster care, he’s heard the horror stories first hand. Maybe they could take her home for a little bit…

Meanwhile Brendons mood has somewhat improved when he gets called down to see a poor gal whose had her leg sliced clean off at a waterpark. Severed limbs are his speciality. The surgery will take hours though so he stops in on Jesse to let him know that their anniversary night is a bust. Jesse  is holding a very contented looking baby and this is where if Park had ovaries they would have exploded. Yes, of course they can take the baby home for a few days, no, he didn’t give away all the formula from the last baby they looked after and yes, he would like Jesse to order him some food for when he gets home. 

Firstly, the leg replantation would take 10+ hours so Park meaning that Dana/Robby/Nurse Gang would be long gone by the time he's finished. Nobody is going to interrupt such an complex surgery to tell him that Jesse has been arrested and hauled away by ICE. AND due to the hospital gossip train, everyone would already know what’s happened.

So that leaves Abbot who has to combine forces with the Ortho charge nurse to make sure nobody tells Park before he has a chance to. Night Shift are on edge all night, waiting for the phone call from the Ortho ward to let them know that Park has finished up in surgery. Lena gets the call around 3am so Abbot heads up along with Jesse's stuff that got left behind.

And poor Park is already exhausted from the IT shutdown mess and then having to do a really complex surgery - he just wants to take a shower and get to bed. He’d told Jesse not to bother waiting for him because the surgery would take hours and now he’s thinking he should probably sleep in the spare room because Jesse is back on shift in a few hours and he doesn’t want to wake him up. They won’t see each other properly until Sunday which sucks BUT they both have four days off. They're going camping at Allegheny National Forest so at least there’s that. Although he’s half expecting to find out that Jesse has taken the abandoned baby home which Park will pretend to be grumpy about but secretly doesn't mind.

But then he finds Bernie, the Ortho charge nurse, and Abbot waiting for him in his office. Maybe Jesse did take the baby home and now they’ve found the mom or something… But then Bernie starts using her “this patient is about to panic and I need to calm them down” voice and Park begins to clock something is wrong because if he was needed back downstairs, they would have just called up for him. An attending would never come all the way up here...

Abbot is relaying all the information they have but Park is still stuck on the fact that Jesse - his kind, sweet and gentle Jesse - has been a) arrested and b) hauled off to gods knows where and EVERYONE has known for hours except him. And then full blown panic because It's the holiday weekend, all the hospital admin have gone home and nobody seems to know what to do or who to call. And finally completely crashing out because Jesse’s surname is dutch - what if they try and deport him? Or send him to prison? Or Park can’t find him? 

So what did you and Dr Park do for your first date?? Drinks? Romantic dinner? Did he cook??👀

Jesse:

We went to see Anti Flag and spent all night in the mosh pit. Three people passed out, I hurt my ribs and Brandon lost a shoe. Best first date ever. 😍🤘

Hi friend!

Honestly it would go something like Park is down bad for Nurse Jesse, that’s a given, but because of all the pesky past childhood trauma - being in foster care was BAD ™️ - his fear of rejection and abandonment is is STRONG. He’d love to ask Jesse out for a cute little metal concert date but his brain just won’t let him. Meanwhile Jesse is struggling because one minute he’s talking to fun, flirty and kind of goofy Brendon and the next its Dr. Park: Orthopaedic Surgeon and Amputation Specialist. 

It's making him miserable and confused and Park realises he needs to get his shit together because aside from Dana giving him a hard time, the new Pathologist has 100% been making eyes at Jesse. And if Jesse turns him down he can always run away to a different hospital.

There’s a band coming to town that they both like so Park buys tickets and arranges to pick Jesse up at his apartment for their date. Except nerves + dyslexia do not make good bedfellows and he mistakes 9pm for 6pm and shows up 3 hours early. Jesse’s only just got in from his shift and is a little bit confused but Park is MORTIFIED. Like wants to crawl into a hole and evaporate level of embarrassment. Jesse doesn’t mind though, and he tells Park to make himself comfortable whilst he de-scrubs. 

They spend hours talking and Park apologies for blowing so hot and cold/not being able to tell time. He doesn't tell many people about his dyslexia + foster trauma mashup but Jesse is so kind and gentle that Park blurts it all out. He also learns that Jesse hasn't dated anyone for about three years which makes him feel even more nervous.

Jesse ends up suggesting that they stay in rather than go to the concert and they stay up all night talking and eating take out.

Front compartment: a pen, hand cream, work IDs, throat sweets, plant protein bars that Jesse gave him, pain meds, air pods, chapstick, tissues.

Main compartment: day panner, a terribly written romantasy book he can't stop reading, laptop, hand sanitiser, plasters, gum, expired eye drops, Mio energy drops, electrolyte packets, another pen, wallet, car keys, house keys with a Jaws keyring, hair gel, hairbrush, Jesse's prescription, grocery list, spare socks.

He ends up sneaking into Parks office whilst he's in surgery and looks through his work bag to see if there's any intel he can use - like a favourite snack or a book - but aside from the usual doctor stuff all he finds are the same vegan snack bars that Dana stocks, a copy of a book called "Quicksilver" which must have been left behind by a patient, his wallet and his house keys. Parks driver licence reveals his address which isn't that far from the hospital... Ogilvie's intention was to just find out where Park lived and "bump" into him but Park would be in surgery for hours… he could be in and out and return the keys before the surgery finished. Find something that he can use as bonding material that would give him the edge over Javadi.

Parks cat keeps following him around and hissing at him and he almost tripped over the drum kit that's set up off the living room and there's loads of weird metal band tour posters on the wall - he didn't peg Park as the musical type. There's three bookcases stuffed full of books which range from weird romance to high level fantasy but too many for him to search through to see if he's read any of them. The fridge is full of vegetables, tofu which Ogilvie doesn't eat and bizarrely has a picture of Nurse Jesse holding Parks cat on it.

Dana back in 2011 when the new Orthopaedic surgeon everyone seems terrified of keeps loitering near her nurses station. Yes, he's very handsome and has a reputation as a brilliant surgeon but that doesn't mean he gets to clutter up the place.

It doesn't take her long to realise that its Jesse Park is not so subtly staring at, understandable, but she's seen this far too many times before - a doctor will take a shine to a nurse and when it inevitably goes sour, the nurse gets shipped off to another hospital and the doctor gets to carry on as normal. Not on her watch. Her nurses might be grown but that doesn't mean she's going to let any of them get thrown under the bus because a doctor couldn't keep his or her hands to themselves.

And Jesse is one of her best - Paediatrics have never quite forgiven her for stealing him from them when he first came to work at the Pitt. She would raise hell if he left because of some idiot doctor. And he's just gotten out of a toxic mess of a relationship - he doesnt need any more drama. So she keeps an eye on Park who, aside from terrifying all the med students and interns, is surprisingly well behaved.

Four months later the office romance that Dana has become quite invested in seems to have stalled. There's lots of lingering looks and conversations about bands she's never heard of but nothing seems to be moving forward. Now Dana has to get involved because the med students keep crashing out whenever they see Park and Jesse is looking slightly forlorn.

She ends up cornering Park on his way back to Ortho and after some investigating it turns out that whilst Park can reattach missing limbs with ease, his confidence in his flirting/boyfriend abilities is low. Jesse probably wouldn't want to go out with him anyway after how shitty his ex was. And everyone keeps mentioning how nurses will never date the doctors so...

Dana tells him that he's being an idiot and that she's 99% certain that if he asks Jesse out, Jesse would say yes. And if he's not going to then he's needs to stop roaming around her ER. Her tough love seems to have worked because a week later she overhears one of the med students gossiping that she was certain she saw Nurse Jesse and "that crazy surgeon from ortho out at a bar" - Robby shuts that down real quick.

Park is surprisingly well behaved (but only to Jesse and the rest of the nurses) and only comes down when he's needed. Dana also has a direct line to the surgeons on the Orthopaedics ward - she makes Jesse call because that usually means one of them will materialise faster.

Ogilvie wanting to get in on one of Park's surgeries because it will look good on his internship, only to find out he's taken a leave of absence because his partner, who Ogilvie assumes is his wife, is unwell. Nobody knows when he's coming back so he ends up stalking the Ortho ward until he overhears one of the nurses saying that Park will be back next week.

Coincidentally his return coincides with Jesse's who, as well as having the shit kicked out of him, caught an awful bug in the ICE detention centre because the conditions were so bad, but Ogilvie is too wrapped up in beating Javadi at Intern Wars to put two and two together.

Park keeps popping down to check on Jesse, which Dana allows because Jesse probably shouldn't be back at work anyway but the hospital admin are shit and it was either that or be unemployed. And Park isn't too much of a distraction, unlike some of the other hospital romances she's been witness too...

Meanwhile Ogilvie has found out that Park personally asked for Javadi to shadow one of his surgeries and is determined to get an invite for himself. Despite everyone telling him not too, he gets in the way once Park is finished seeing a poor construction worker that's accidentally had his hand chopped off. He's only talking to nurse Jesse so it shouldn't matter too much if Ogilvie interrupts....

He briefly brings up Parks ailing "wife" before listing all the reasons why he would be a better candidate to shadow a surgery than Javadi. She'd probably be more focused on making one of her dumb TikTok's anyway.

And Park... implodes. Because not only has Ogilvie wasted the precious five minutes he has to check in on Jesse before he has to get prepped for his next surgery, he's now got this idiot baby doctor trying to worm his way into his OR.
