Cute but Psycho

How many episodes have I watched: Two. Rating: 4/10 Would I recommend it: Maybe. Full disclaimer: This is for my wheel reviews which means it chooses what I watch. Hence only two. If this wasn't obvious, this is a sports anime about surfing. Surfing is also probably hard to hand-draw so a lot of it is 3D. It does not mesh well within the world and stands out a lot but eh... I've seen worse. 2D is also decent. The first episode was fine. The second episode somehow managed to tick me off. It's been a while since a piece of media has made me that freaking shocked and kind of annoyed. It wasn't like burning with rage kind of anger like Miraculous has done for me but it was enough to subject my friends to a full on rant which I would apologize for if I didn't find it funny. The second episode is no where near egregious enough to say this show sucks or anything like that and I'm fully willing to admit that the grievances I have with it are probably more of my personal issue than anyone else's. The pacing of this show is terrible. It's somehow rushed yet they find some way to cram like 6 bath house scenes in one episode. I think I've seen these characters more half-naked then clothed. I don't particularly enjoy that. If it's fan service it doesn't even seem like good fan service so I don't get the point? And for the record, I hate fan service so if it was it was good, I still wouldn't like it but at least it served a purpose. Hello, I'm chronically asexual. Fan service really isn't my thing but you enjoy yourselves. I have accepted it's just part of the anime experience but I still don't have to like it. Masaki's (the main character) motivations for surfing are completely unclear to me. The story claims it is to surf and surf with friends. The visuals and his actions show me it is only to surf. Screw his friends and his own life, apparently. And his friends are nice but are more supportive than anything and lack some back bone to talk sense into him. When he finally does get yelled at it is not that cathartic because it lasts for like 20 seconds and then we get another freaking bathhouse scene. The wheel did actually try to get me to watch a third episode directly after the second and I vetoed and did something else because I was just that flabbergasted. Maybe I'll try again. I hope the writing gets better. Despite feeling rushed the second episode also felt like it was taking forever because there was so many things but so little substance... And they skipped the part where these guys become close which is fine but their chemistry also lacks any real substance. To me this is a let down compared to the other sports anime I have watched. But I won't say I would never recommend this and I definitely may try watching more to see if this was a fluke because I do like the idea of the characters and I'm not stranger to watching terribly written things if the characters are good enough. However, I cannot in good conscious say this is good based on what I have consumed. I'd share my rant but that just spoils a bunch of stuff and I am going to try to avoid spoilers and "read more lines" for the most part (except probably for the ones I'm very passionate about). But if you want it, you can ask, not that I think anyone truly wants it. I just find it entertaining to share in my misery. The bright side is, I do get to learn a little more about surfing which is another reason I like to watch sports anime. I am not a sport girly and I would rather watch fictional characters play a game that lasts like 3 minutes then spend an hour watching a real game. So this is a digestible way to learn.

How many episodes have I watched: One. Rating: 6/10 Would I recommend it: Sure. Full disclaimer: This is for my wheel reviews which means it chooses what I watch. The wheel does not highly favor this one, I guess. Alright, hard to truly judge something on one episode. I usually try to watch two but there are some where the first episode is enough to tell you if you want to continue. Not this one. It's got good animation, though that isn't too shocking. And it seems well written and teaches you about the human body. It's definitely out of my age range probably but as someone who almost exclusively watches animated media, I am no stranger to this so that doesn't bother me as long as it's good. Rating is more of a positive mid-ground because I liked it but did not learn enough about it yet to give my honest opinions. Nothing in the first episode stood out enough for me to go wow! Hilariously this should be perfect for kids but I'm like 60% sure my nieces would hate it based on the things they consume. But hey, there's a 40% chance they'll like it so maybe I'll give it a go at some point. It is humorous but humor is highly subjective and it isn't my cup of tea but most humor isn't. Quick form humorous content is more likely to get me than actual comedy, unfortunately. But just because I don't truly care for it does not mean it is not good. I am sometimes able to recognize when something is a well-told joke even if for me I did not find it funny. So I think the humor in this is definitely someone's cup of tea. Highly recommend watching this with friends. I think it's more fun that way, if you aren't watching with your kids. There's not much of a story to chew on so I think it's definitely more of a group watch rather than an individual watch. However, I ain't stopping you if you want to binge the whole thing by yourself.

How many episodes have I watched: All 12. Rating: 7/10 Would I recommend it: Sure. Full disclaimer: This is for my wheel anime/donghua reviews but I actually watched this before the wheel existed so this is why it's been completely consumed. Don't sue me. Anyway, this is a decent Sports anime. It's technically my second one ever so the rating is maybe a tad inflated. Rating could be knocked down if I watch again. But it was a nice experience however I found it a tad lackluster compared to the first one I watched. It's comfy and nice. The relationships are fun to watch and the sport is rhythmic gymnastics, specifically men's, which I had never seen or heard about in my entire life. Real interesting to learn about. Because this is a complicated sport to draw by hand, a lot is 3D. The 3D is decent by anime standards. Nothing to write home about but not bad. The rest is 2D and very nice. I wouldn't call it visually stunning but it was very nice to look at. The characters are where it kind of falls flat a little for me. I only found about two truly engaging based on their struggles. It doesn't give you much to chew on with them. And I feel like what truly stands out about sports anime is the characters and their relationships with their team mates. (Putting this in parenthesis but 90% of the time usually what keeps me watching is good characters. So if at least one of them is good, I'll probably stick around but if all of them suck chances are unlikely, though there are always exceptions). I may be a little harsh on it because I did keep comparing it to my first initial sports anime. I wish I could honestly say more on it but this didn't stand out that much. I'm one of those people where you can tell how much I like something based on how much I talk about it. This I may have talked about for 3 days before moving on which means it's good but not anything that stood out. However, if you need a break from life and need something relaxing and nice to watch that doesn't involve romance, I'd recommend it. I definitely didn't feel like I wasted my time and it left a good taste in my mouth by the end.

So I had already made a list of things I need to watch with my sis. We literally have a spreadsheet of like 2,000 to watch we've been meaning to. I just took all the anime and donghua (since they like that too) that were shows and put them on a wheel and whatever I could easily find available to watch that followed the rules was in the running. This is also for me who has plenty of shows she needs to get through so I thought it would be funny if I just "review" what I've watched occasionally and how much. Please keep in mind everything before this is just backstory. I do not allow my nieces to watch everything I watch. And beyond Spy X Family I won't be telling you what we watch together cause it does not matter since this little blog is my opinion and I prefer to keep my nieces safe and out of internet limelight. Also understand I have multiple wheels. Whatever doesn't make it in the running for niece watching will go on my own personal wheel to watch unless I find something I don't care for. Since my watch experience relies on wheels there are gonna just be some anime I have only seen one episode of. Do not come at me, I am at the mercy of the wheel. It's much more fun for me to do it this way and minimizes my chances of unhealthily hyper fixating. Anyway, for fun I'll make a wheel of what I have watched and then I'm just gonna "review" what it chooses.

I am grateful to the fandom that managed to save most things so I can accomplish my dream of completing the story and skip the annoying levels. Bless you guys. You all rock. Though Mr Love is ending my love and appreciation for it will not. And I should not have remained so silent on it beyond a few small posts. I hope to find some time in the future to talk about it more and gush about it and other things I actually like. Miraculous has stolen too much of my life for something I don't truly enjoy (though I have liked season 6 a tiny bit better). Anyway... showing my favoritism with this last corny line but I'll always remember the wind and the gingko leaf promise. : )
