In 2012, we founded Twice in a small Oakland warehouse. We slept on futons in our offices, and used the kitchen to store inventory. We offered 24-hour customer service because we figured that no one would ever call in the middle of the night (we were wrong). Every afternoon, our USPS driver would call us when she was 15 minutes away — enough time for us to run downstairs and pack up all our orders for the day.
Over the past three and a half years, so much has changed. We’ve expanded from women’s clothing to shoes, handbags, and men’s fashion. We’ve bought and sold millions of pieces of clothing from customers in every state and a dozen countries. And we’ve attracted some of the best investors, advisors and employees in the world.
But some things haven’t changed. Our vision for Twice has always been to make selling as easy as shopping, and to make buying used feel like buying new. Today, we’re announcing the next step toward that vision — our technical leadership and engineering team will be joining eBay to help power eBay Valet.
As part of this agreement, eBay will be able to use some of the technology we’ve developed at Twice and integrate it into their broader assisted selling efforts. Hundreds of millions of people use eBay every year, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring our vision to the largest consumer marketplace in the world.
While we are proud to share this news, it’s also a bittersweet moment for us, as we’ll be winding down Twice’s current website, apps and operations. We recognize this will be a significant change for many customers, and as a result we’ve put together the following plan to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Through the end of the month, our website and apps will continue to operate normally. We’re running a series of sales (starting at 30% off!) to clear out our inventory, so don’t be a stranger. If you have Twice store credit in your account, we encourage you to take advantage of these sales, as your credit will not be redeemable once our site shuts down. All purchases on www.liketwice.com or our apps will be final sale.
If you have any returns from purchases made before today, please ensure that we receive your returned items by July 30th, or we will not be able to process your refund. You can print return labels from the Account section of our website — as shipping times vary, please ship your returns ASAP. And again, all purchases made from today onward are final.
Beginning today, we will not be able to accept or evaluate any new sell orders. Sell orders that we receive can be returned to you for our standard shipping charge of $4.95, and returns can be requested in the Account section of our website. Alternatively, your items can be donated to our nonprofit partner, Goodwill, for free, and you may receive a receipt for your donation.
