Those scenes were not meant to show an 100% accurate picture of what happened back then but rather how Lestat *feels* living in that place. He felt trapped, overwhelmed, angry, emotionally neglected, scared, abused, and it's very much shown in the way the scenes are chaotic, filled with people shouting over eachother.
