do you have any tips on how you colour or how to learn? ive just come across some of your art and the colours are gorgeous! sorry if youve already had a question like this </3 ive only just discovered your account
I think I've talked about it before but I'm happy to talk about it again! For learning, personally studying from other artists was the most helpful when learning colour theory and trying to get better with colour palettes/lighting! I also like doing studies based on photos, I have a pinterest board dedicated to photos with fun lighting for inspiration
The way I colour specifically is pretty loose and painterly, I did a lot of painting before I got into digital art so I use similar methods to how I worked as a traditional artist!
I made a little timelapse to show how I work, I start with filling everything in with one colour and work in sections to fill out and render skin, hair, clothes, etc! Then I set the sketch layer as a multiply layer, colour the lineart and add any final details.
The brush I use does a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to colour choice, I mainly use the tiger brush pack brushes from the csp asset store, they're soft and have a lot of hue variation which helps me add colours to my work I might've not thought to add otherwise!
Other little colouring notes:
I try to avoid purely white eyes! Nobody has entirely white sclera and I've found it can look scary in art especially if the rest is fairly well rendered lol
For shadows and highlights, I don't just change the value but also the hue! How I change it depends on the piece but because I like colouring warmer toned stuff, generally I go for warmer shadows. Lots of reds and oranges!
I also really like adding reflective light! Super easy way to do it is to take your drawing, draw some blue (or whatever colour you want) in it, colour pick from that, and then add it where it feels right! Maybe doesn't always make sense but I think it looks good and I like doing it lol
I hope this all made sense and answered your question properly! :'D
hello habs! i saw you responded to an ask about colouring and it reminded me that i’ve been meaning to ask you advice about something if you don’t mind!
can you explain how you draw real people? you style is really cool, i can immediately tell who you’re drawing. i’m getting kindaaa decent at art but drawing real people in a stylized way is what i struggle the most, they just look nothing life the ref
thank you in advance!! i hope you’re having a great day!! go fishing and stuff
I'll be so real, drawing real life people is usually my least favourite activity, I get very uncomfortable looking at photos of people for extended periods of time. Having to look at ryan gosling's face for longer than 5 seconds gives me hives. Yet I persevere.
This is kind of my process when I first start drawing someone from live action, I start with realistic studies to get down features, from that exploration, I figure out what makes them distinct. Mr gosling has very distinct eyes and nose, so I latch onto that and do more studies but instead of fully trying to capture everything, I go off vibes. Then more and more vibes until I no longer have to look at his face.
I don't have the original studies I did for grace cause I deleted that shit but I do have the ones for carl!

Hii! I know your back to studio clip paint, but I was wondering if you have any tips for fellow photoshop user? (I saw you struggle with brushes and i can Just say "same" 😞)
I still have to use it for work/school so I'm using it pretty frequently :') I try my best to make the experience the closest as I can to clip studio, so I set shortcuts similar to the ones I'm used to like a canvas flip shortcut and I make sure the canvas zooms with the scroll wheel (cause it doesn't with default photoshop.) I also set up my workspace in a way I can see the brushes, navigator, colour wheel, layers, etc. And I have brushes installed on a drive so I can import them into photoshop whenever I need to! A lot of my experience with photoshop though has been accepting and taking Ls that it's not going to work like the drawings programs I'm used to and trying to find work arounds so that it's still usable for me haha
If you're looking for brushes, I can share the ones I found that I like the best! First is Riense's brushes from this post, the sketch brush from the set works great for me! I also really like Greg Rutkowski's brushes on gumroad, some of them cost a bit, but he's got one free set that I like! Also love Devin Elle Kurtz brushes, also on gumroad, all the sets are free and they're great!
Other than that, I've found a lot of other brushes while looking through tumblr tags and just searching "photoshop brushes" online lol
Good luck with photoshop soldier 🫡

everyone has to be nice to him
Hihiii I love the way you draw heads the stylisation is so yummy crunchy would you be able to break down how you go about drawing different head shapes and from different angles?
Your art is so tasty yummmers Ty for feeding us all 🙏
I kind of just go for it I haven't thought about it a lot lol, I start very geometrical and add guides and usually a neck to get a general sense of perspective then I allow the features to shape how the headshape will look and I erase and redo until it feels right.
Generally speaking, I think the angle changes the ears and chin the most, looking up will have the ears lower and vise versa, and the angle of the chin will be flatter as the face looks up too. You can really easily make faces look different by changing the chin, erasing harsh lines will make the chin look softer, etc.
Do you have any tricks on anatomy?? Or like what shapes should be for where??
for more accurate proportions, I like to mark down some landmarks early, so clavicle/pelvis/feets/etc. and then go back and add and refine based on that
for shapes, there's not really any specific assigned shapes like "the arm should be a cylinder and the shoulder should be a circle." I usually like to think of shapes more abstractly. The stricter you are, the stiffer your figures will look.
maybe one shape thing is to think of the torso a little like a bean? That's what my figure drawing profs teach lol
Also you can use references help guide you. In the above image, I have my reference photo, the action lines I traced from it and then a drawing based on that
phm is decently popular in japan and i mostly see this when i check twitter and see accounts posting pictures of handmade rocky plushies that are so fucking round looking it brings a tear to my eye
