dunno if i’m being too cynical about this but i’m worried that my white friends posting black lives matter stuff is just performative and they don’t really recognize that just getting rid of the “few bad apples” won’t fix anything and that the foundation of policing and law enforcement is violently racist and has to be dismantled altogether to make any lasting change
turns out I was right to be too cynical because in 2020 public opinion was shifting to varying degrees of “police are a taxpayer-funded institution that only serves to protect capital and murders minorities with impunity and we want to do something about it” and that sentiment was capitalized on by some politicians insofar as saying the right words to garner support from those people and now we’re getting “woke 1 was crazyyyy” from those same politicians as they walk back every progressive position they publicly held
