"If I suddenly vanish into shadow, maybe..." Mav nibbled at his lip. "But maybe not? He's special, right?"

"Not regularly, no," Siska said as he walked past them of the kitchen. "But I would never turn down an invite to one."

Siska shrugged. "Sure, why not." He pushed off the counter with a bit of a smirk on his lips.
"Okay, so I'll grab stuff for a big nest. Wait. Do you nest, Siska?"
"Not regularly, no," Siska said as he walked past them of the kitchen. "But I would never turn down an invite to one."

"Besides." Velox hunched down and scratched at Umber's chest. "Been a few months since I got any doggy company. You can't hog him all for yourself, Mav." He flashed the Spirit a playful grin.
"I don't even really know how to play with a dog." But that didn't matter. Vee would teach him and Mav had learned, if he just focused on Vee, things weren't so bad.
"I'm sure you'll figure it out," Velox smiled. "Come on, let's go make him a pallet to sleep in."

"I'll make the stair a priority," Murk said, mostly for himself. And followed Linneaus out of the kitchen. Because just like Mav, he had a feeling Umber hadn't gotten lost...
Velox's mandibles were pulled up as Linneaus just left like that and he met eyes with Mav in shared worry and pain. "I'll sleep in here tonight," he offered. "Just to keep an eye on Umber and be close in case Linneaus needs me."
Mav pulled his mandibles in and turned away from them and made himself just focus on the dog. Umber was busy licking the bowl clean and not missing a single piece. "I can stay with him. Everything was my idea anyway so that makes me responsible."
Velox stepped up and put a hand on Mav's shoulder. "We'll both stay with him," he tried. Not liking one bit how Mav put this all on himself and avoiding the difficult thing before him.
His mandibles fluttered hard a few times and it was a bit of a struggle to make his head turn, to meet Vee's eyes. Okay. Okay. "Yeah," He said. "Let's do that. Maybe he gets hungry again, y'know? And it's warm enough in here."

Fair enough. I'm going to sleep. He patted Umber's head as he walked by but that was all.
Where had his brother's joy and excitement gone? His whole response to Umber and everything else of the day was just... just flat indifference and numb acceptance. Mav rubbed at his fringe again. Did nothing make his brother happy anymore? And... painful in the bottom of his Spirit, Mav wondered why he kept trying. "I'ma er, I'm gonna grab stuff to make him comfortable down here then, I guess."

"Oh. Makes sense." Mav lowered his head. He'd thought it a good idea since Umber had already done something for his brother. But like always, he'd forgotten to consider everything he'd already been told.
Linnaeus, like the new always, seemed unbothered. Reasonable enough.
Murk nodded. "I agree, seem reasonable."

"I can come tuck you in?" Murk offered easily. He liked tucking the boys in. It gave him a chance to check in with them one on one.

"Yeah, I know." A smaller squeeze and he let his brother go. The seizures upset him, the way they tore through his brother and turned him from a powerhouse to something that struggled to stand. "I'll come up after I get Umber all settled for the night."
Murk smiled, seeing the hug, and stood.
"Is it okay for him to sleep indoors?" Velox asked Murk. "Or we could have him out in the tent with us? It's warm in there too."

For some reason he wasn't certain of, Mav doubted that. He'd been thinking from the start that maybe Umber hadn't gotten lost. Now, he was almost sure of it.
Linnaeus rubbed at his face and eyes. I think I might go to bed early. I'm exhausted now.

"How... Rare, is this talent in dogs?" Siska asked. He was leaning against the counter.
"Really rare," Velox told them. "Most other service type of dogs you can train. But the seizure type they need to be born with. Or inherited by a parent."
Umber began eating right away. Mav wanted to pet him but couldn't reach and the dog was probably starving anyway. The Wanderer would leave him be til he was done. "What?" He turned back to Vee and dad.
What Umber did is truly exceptional, Linnaeus filled him in.
"Well duh. He ran right to you to help you."
Velox smiled as he watched Umber eat. It looked like the pooch hadn't eaten in days. But to be fair, it could look like that on a dog that had gotten food just an hour ago too. "I hope whoever own him knows what a special one they have."

Murk who had been so catious around the animal. And Velox understood why, he did. But... "Really an exceptional talent." One that could be very useful to have around.
He came out of nowhere just as I started to fall, Linnaeus told them in a helpful tone. I didn't even sense him in the house.
Mav took the seat next to his brother. "Really? But you sense everything?"
Not everything, He rolled his eyes and found them landing on Umber as he pawed the ground next to Velox's feet. The huge furry paw making a thwomp sort of sound on the floor.
Murk took a seat by the table as well. "Useful? Really?" The giant was watching the dog with new eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, I know." Velox told Umber and blew on the food once more before the dog's big eyes got the better of him and he put it down on the floor for him. "Here you go."

Linnaeus let his father pull him to the chairs, not that there was any digging his feet in with someone so big. Umber gave a quiet bark at the food but seemed to get that he had to wait.
Mav kissed that huge head again and then joined them. "So really just a small one?"
He sipped from the glass.. Actually really just a small one.
"Yeah?" Velox said with a smile as he stirred the food. "That's good. And amazing how Umber could sense it, isn't it?" He considered the big fluff for a moment then glanced up at Murk. "He will," Siska said and pulled the now done chicken from the stove too and shut it off.
Thank you, He said to Velox as he took both the medication and the glass with one hand and held to his father with the other.
"Awesome," Mav hummed and bent to ruffle the dog's ears and peck his head. "Good boy, Umber."
"You want to sit? You should probably sit," Murk asked Linneaus and led him to the table.
