Before the start of Kaisei’s performance, we learned of why he was given this name by Issho in the first place - in hopes that he becomes the forerunners of all flowers, “the plum blossom that blooms before all others, heralding the coming of spring.” He was set to spearhead his generation.

Over time, it seems that the masses, whilst still enjoying his art, came to view him as someone who has already fulfilled his potential, has already shown all that he can offer (in the context of his God of Death at least). Now, what they desire is a fresh “sakura” that has so much more to show than an already grown plum blossom.

And that’s what makes this moment with Issho all the more impactful. Even though he was the one who give him that very name, Issho gives Kaisei his approval, the thing Kaisei has longed for such a long time and acknowledges his potential - that his journey as a Rakugoka has just started.

The rage I feel towards Issho after this chapter has increased exponentially. I can't even BEGIN to think through Kaisei's story and the dialogue we hear. HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE YOUR SON!!! "Why didn't you save me sooner?" As if didn't concoct an elaborate plan to exorcise your shinigami? As if he wouldn't do anything he can to keep you alive? As if he doesn't feel like he owes everything he has in life to you??? And you have the gall to criticize him for saving you? You have no idea what the boy is going through and what he sacrificed so you can be here.

And the master even kicked the boy out, I'm assuming this is Kaisei's metaphor for Issho ruining his promotion exam. Issho completely disregarded Kaisei's art, his hard work and dedication. Everything he's experienced up until this point was thanks to him but also Issho's to blame.

Akane was supposed to have aviator sunglasses to suggest a tanuki’s eye marks and because they’re rock star but I couldn’t get the shape right. In the official art I remember, she’s usually given round sunglasses.

This part broke my heart more than any other in the chapter. With other clues scattered in the story and my guilty addiction to relationship drama (hello, Reddit), these two sentences made me envision Ome-san’s entire backstory: She was studying to be someone. She gets knocked up and is disowned by her family for it, but at least the guy marries her out of obligation. Then the responsibility is too much; he liked her when she was a pretty girlfriend but not when she needs him to be a husband and father, and he leaves. Her family won’t help her because they think it’s her fault, his family is relieved that he dumped that trashy woman and can establish his “real” family, and all she has left is her beloved baby. She can’t go back to school because she has to work to support them. There’s constant jabs of “Oh you’ll be fine, you’re pretty.” No matter how bad it gets, she is determined to do right by him.
