Ok I’m still not done with this
Rrrrgrhhh I think I over-exaggerated how important Good Thing Going is because the line I was referencing was more about his lack of work since good thing going … and less that it was like his only thing ever
BUT also. I mean… that is the only song we have EVER seen in relation to Franks career, so… I don’t know man… like it’s kinda sad 😭… in rich and happy that’s the song the pianist is playing on loop during the talking parts that aren’t on the album… and I mean besides Bobby and Jackie and Jack, we just never see another Franklin Shepard song the entire show
Ok anyways the more important thing I wanted to discuss! Was the OTHER endings to Franklin Shepard Inc
That was one of many many many
For some reason Sondheim and Prince just really weren’t content with it
Ok first, I was gonna meantion this in the post originally, but I thought it was too much of a tangent: there’s another version of the “good thing going” ending where Charley sings it
But it’s really weird and I don’t like it… he takes like this weird opt down.. and I really don’t like it 😭😭😭😭
Second, in very early versions, one of my FAVORITE ONES is “I couldn’t help it Evelyn we’ll talk about it afterwards- Inc”
Because in early versions of Franklin Shepard Inc, Charley mocks his wife… 🤕
Like he’ll “talk” to Evelyn and then respond to himself as her in a sorta “nagging wife” stereotype ON TWO OCCASIONS
“Evelyn could you write that down for me? (As her:) write it down yourself Charley I’m not your secretary”
“(As her:) I think you’ve made your point Charley! (As himself:) No! Here’s the point whatever happens (…)”
I guess the second one could be anyone, but I like to think it’s Evelyn
Actually no I’m not done with this one
Dude they kept it in the show for so long
If they kept the Evelyn bit, then this most likely would’ve been our ending
ALSO Charley just really loves roleplaying because he asks the interviewer to pretend to be Charley Kringas as he pretends to be Frank
There are definitely MORE VERSIONS it’s just that they’re either too low quality to even dream about making it out, or they just have never been recorded
