Yes, I generated some images using AI. Yes, I’m fully aware it’s not real art and that AI will never replace human creativity. Yes, it’s a grey area, just like a lot of fan-made content that borrows from someone else’s work. And no, I really don’t feel like hearing the same lectures over and over again... all day long.

Are we going to talk about how drawing characters that aren’t yours is also a little bit of a author's grey area? Or how some fanfics sometimes cross lines when it comes to respect for the characters or even the actors? No?

So before turning me into the collective villain for sharing a few AI-generated images, maybe take a moment to look at your own creative choices and boundaries first. Maybe something you do isn't exactly comfortable for everyone either, but no everyone feels the need to spread it all over the fandom.

People take a moral stance against generative ai, 1)because of the fact that it is just sosososo bad for the environment and, 2)because it is very obviously ripping off studio gibhli while one of its creators has spoken out against generative ai, and 3) because of the implications for all artists everywhere, whose work and style gets grinded down into soulless content without their consent, which takes away the few ways they have of making a living with a skill that takes ages to develop

The main issue isnt that someone feels uncomfortable because you're disrespecting a specific work/author. it's in the principle behind respecting the value of all artists' work in general. Because otherwise what you're saying is "this is fun and i enjoy it, so i don't care about the ways in which it hurts the world at large."

Like i get that ya feel strongly about the show, but ?? Literally nobody owes u shit? U wanna write a better show? u go, babe!! But the paid writers working on it will do their job however they see fit, you have no control over the season and there is absolutely 0 use of talking about what could/should be, much less being legitimately concerned and upset about how it could go bad.

Also i am especially perplexed by the ppl who, in describing the possible ways they could ruin tua, say the writers shouldn’t “include too much fan service” ???? Hun??? Not ruining it IS fan service?? Ur literally saying “they shouldn’t do what other fans want to happen, they should do what i want to happen”

Trust me, the writers dont sit down and go “right lets ruin this show by giving ppl what they want and just writing really bad” they are doing their best and so far you have liked it, you are ruining it for yourselves by creating unrealistically high expectations and imagining countless possible things that could go wrong.

five was an assassin in season 1 who killed countless amounts of innocent people. he had arrested development, was forced to become an assassin (ultimately by himself in another timeline) and kill people, and the only thing that kept him sane was idealizing this concept of saving his family that he barely remembers anymore

it was a coping mechanism he clung to. people even pointed out to him over the course of the show that he was an apocalypse junkie. it’s because he could fixate on that shit to keep the horrors and loneliness from setting in

he has arrested development, never got to have a life or a (real) love, he’s extremely lonely and only gets lonelier when he feels like he’s babysitting and taking care of the other hargreeves

he does not have a life

lila was the only one around him who had a similar disposition. she was drawn to the time travel, the adrenaline, the thrill. they even straight up said in the previous season she wouldn’t be cut out for domestic life.

none of this is to say that lila and five weren’t genuine. they did still love and care about their respective families. lila loved her children and five did care about saving his siblings

but it’s deeper than that 😭 they were desperately lonely people who already felt out of place because of the way they were forced to grow up. the handler raised lila in a way that left her with lingering dysfunction. five didn’t even get to have an upbringing. it’s just more nuanced than what people say it is
