In Italy we have the term "perbenismo", "perbenista" if used as adjective to refer to people. When you do something "per bene" means you're scrupulous and exact, so a "persona per bene" (lit. person for good) means a respectable person. The term has then evolved in "perbenismo" when your respectability becomes performative; you ostentatiously follow the society norm, regardless of what it is, uniforming yourself to the dominant class because it only matters that you look respectable from the outside, to those that truly count (whoever they might be).

(also this is tied to evergoing myth of "Italiani tutta brava gente" > "Italians all good people" that was and is still used to not face our responsibilities after WWII and in general now supports most of the right wing rethoric)
