The Wedding Planner is the Bride!
As of New Year’s day, I am am a bride-to-be. Yes, T. Smith Bridal is getting married! Actually, for the second (and last) time.
I have gracefully accepted the position of wedding planner of my own “big day”.
My wedding is in September so I had to get the venue secured first and foremost. I allowed myself a 30 day window to locate and decide on a venue. This wasn’t too difficult for me. I prefer event center venues that have an open catering policy and since not many have this policy, I listed a few good options, toured them, and made my decision based on appearance and amenities.
Appearance is key for me because I am perfectly anal about the walls in reception halls! Sure, unattractive walls can be hidden using curtains but I don’t want that design for my event. I also hate busy carpeting…you know, the kind in most hotel banquet halls, so those were not even an option. My designs would clash terribly with those floors!! Don’t get me wrong, you can still create a nice setting despite the gag-worthy carpet, with the right table linens and lighting. Another thing is, in my experience, it takes forever to hear back from the staff in charge of facility rental and I don’t like to waste time waiting.
As far as amenities, I simply want my money’s worth. I also like freedom to create my own scene instead of being stuck with the out-of-the-box design that many venues insist on providing. I simply can’t digest the standard white linens and the plain vase of whatever flowers they can find for cheap. Especially considering the overall cost of renting the facility and using the in-house catering service. I want what I want for my money!
So…I found my preferred venue well within my 30 day window.
It is located in a somewhat secluded spot, it has lovely dark, hardwood floors, beautiful faux painted walls, and a tree lined garden with gorgeous landscaping.
As a bonus, the ceiling comes already decorated with draped sheer ivory fabric! That’s a savings of $300-$600! I am in designer’s heaven!
Did I mention that the rental fee is less than $3000 for 9 hours?
The room is essentially a blank slate.
With date, time, and venue secured, I’m off to do some designing and creating. Stay tuned….
