ELIZABETH TAYLOR was 19 during the filming of IVANHOE (1952). This is the age Richard Burton saw her for the first time. Recollecting her then, he said: “I thought she was the most beautiful and sullen creature I had ever met: difficult, unreachable, unmanageable, unobtainable, impenetrable, and- again- difficult.”
