Most Ramayan adaptations are written/made with the Ramacharitmanas in mind; even so, I am endlessly fascinated by how they always end up portraying Sita as soft, non-argumentative and submissive to Rama, which, while compliant with the public perception of her character, is very much not how Valmiki wrote her.

Meanwhile Draupadi, who is almost always soft-spoken and obedient to her husbands as per Vyasa, is portrayed as angry and fierce. Which is nice and everything but I have the sinking feeling that it's only because she had five husbands and broke unspoken societal norms (good for her!) and naturally, such a woman cannot be kind and merciful to all. She much seek vengeance and bloodshed, scorn her husbands, hate her Mother-in-law, and resent Krishna's freedom as a man.

Ive always found it interesting how ramayan gives us so many different dynamics of the same relationship .

for example- brothers

Ram and lakshman:

lakshman is absolutely devoted to ram and would kill and be killed for him. Left behind the palace just so he could be with his bhaiya. Even though he will obey his brother he still has his opinions and stands his ground if he feels somthing is wrong.

Vibhishan and raavan:

how even though Vibhishan loved him raavan was a terrible person who hates him in return and as much as he hated it he had to help ram kill raavan.

Raavan and kumbhkaran:

He knew what raavan had done was wrong but he refused to betray his brother.

Sugreev and bali:

They loved each other until it was all shattered by a misunderstanding.

And there are so many more that aren't that explored

Jatayu and his brother (im sorry I just cannot remember his name rn)

Vibhishan and kumbhkaran

Lakshman and shatrugan

Shatrugan and bharat

Bharat and ram

Nal and neel

You can always find a way to somehow relate because it is so vast

I sometimes think about Shri Ram. How he copied the way his father walked with the reverence of a child with rose coloured world.

I sometimes think about Shri Ram. How his Kekayi Maa danced with him on his birthday, their hair open and done in the same styles. How he sneakily sold his paintings to buy his Sumitra Maa a pair of studs for her birthday.

I sometimes think about Shri Ram. How he was suddenly the eldest. How his father passed the baton unto him and how scorching was the heat of responsibility of being the son of the Sun descendants.

I sometimes think about Ram. A child who outgrew the lap he found solace in. A man who only had memories for guidance.
