Barton Springs
Things I didn't know about Barton Springs Pool.
There was once a Spanish Mission there (before it was a pool).
Robert Redford learned to swim there when he was visiting Austin relatives as a boy.

This may be a photo of my great great great grandparents. Both were born in Ireland. Mary arrived in American in 1853, John in 1855--the final years of the Irish Famine. Mary was 19 when she emigrated. John was 30. They married in America.
Corn!
I've never had Nasturtium bloom before, but this little flower is coming along...
Cucumber then. Cucumber now.

Tomato!
Sorry for becoming the person who takes photos of their breakfast. My local meal from this weekend including several backyard ingredients.
This recipe turned out great! I cut the green tops off mine before grilling. We ate our strawberries with Blue Bell vanilla bean ice cream after a day of swimming in the springs.

My great great great grandfather and great great great grandmother: Henry and Mary Jane Flowers.
The danger in searching is that you may find the unexpected. So far our forays into genealogy have mostly served to dispel family lore.
Instead of tracing our family back to the Native American roots we thought we had, it looks like the same relatives that lived near the reservation at the turn of the century may lead to Richard Pace, who played a key role in warning Jamestown of an impending Powahatan raid in 1622. So the story goes, Richard Pace was warned of the attack by a Native American named Chauco or Chacrow, or neither of those.
Also, Richard Pace, despite the lineage, has no definitive direct descendants, so it's possible I'm not related to him at all.
Wikipedia on Richard Pace.

Here is a photo of my grandmother (in the glasses) between my great-grandmother and great-grandfather at their vacation home on Buckeye Lake in Ohio.
Working on climbing the family tree for the next 30 days.
How do you fight stinkbugs in your garden?
Ugh! Pulled a bunch of leaf footed nymphs off a tomato this week. (This is a stock photo.)
Cucumber! I've removed one of these sprouts.

This How-To from Sunset was a great guide when we built our 2nd 4x4 raised bed. We didn't do everything here, but we borrowed some great ideas.
This is what I used to plan my garden this year. Well, sort of, because I had already planted some things in the exactly wrong place...Still a good tool!
