i read thg sooo long ago i don’t remember much of my reactions reading it for the first time but i do remember being absolutely GAGGGGGGEDDDDDDDDD by the entire last half of catching fire. middle school reading experience of all time

I think one of the base things that a prequel or a sequel needs to do in order to be an improvement upon the original work is that it needs to make you never view the original in the same light again. everything needs to be recontextualized, not just continued. that’s why I think the ballad of songbirds and snakes and sunrise on the reaping are very effective at what they do because i’m re-watching the movies after reading both books and now they’re a wholly different experience

the first two hunger games movies are way better than i remember them
