something i wish i had realized earlier: you can write poems on the same subject more than once. you can write, paint, draw the same thing over and over if you want to. you can spend your whole life making art about oranges. i think i always felt this pressure to get it right the first time like i couldn’t go back and use that inspiration again. but you can. you can go back and revisit it. you can pick up the conversation again and again if you have more to say.

there are some feelings that aren’t worth holding onto, and i think i realize that now. for a long time i was my sadness, i was the lost feeling. there is some comfort to be found in suffering. there is something nice about sympathy. but they are heavy feelings and you can’t move very far if you allow them to define you. i think the spark is back. when i was a child everything was viewed with wonder, and every memory has a sweet coating. i think i found that again. i think something has shifted. feelings will pass. they are not good foundations. but the people around you, and the purpose you work towards, allow for a brightness. i’m aware i will probably continue having to sometimes fight my mind’s natural inclination towards negativity, but it isn’t an impossible battle. even then, i feel a bridging between the gap, of who i am, and who i want to be. that little voice is a little quieter. i can recognize myself in the mirror. the girl and i are the same. and we have always been.
