Katrina Quizon: Kelsey Fargas

Although Katrina was born in the Philippines and half of the blood flowing through her veins is Filipino, she often disregards that part of her family’s history. Having spent almost half of her life in the States, Katrina has completely assimilated into the American culture, and any trace of Filipino culture is virtually undetectable. Her journey on American Superstar, however, triggers memories of her time spent in the Philippines, rekindling her connection to her Filipino roots and helping her stitch the two seemingly separate lifestyles together.

Aileen Reyes: Essencejoy Evangelista

Filled with pride for herself and her Filipino heritage, Aileen is usually mistaken for a boastful and arrogant. Initially viewing Katrina’s natural sweetness and charisma as a threat, Aileen puts her guard up, but quickly tears it down when she learns that she is a fellow Filipina. Miles away from her home in Manila, Aileen does everything she can to keep Katrina in the competition beside her. That is, until the finals.

Pauline: Marjie Panknin

While on a mission in the Philippines, Pauline, an American, fell in love with Rolando, a young, Filipino school teacher. Helplessly entranced with Rolando, Pauline became equally engulfed in the Filipino culture and continues to maintain aspects of Filipino culture, even after returning to the States. The excessively scatterbrained worrywart is constantly and lovingly sticking her nose into her family’s business.

Rolando: Gabe Acuna

As young school teacher in the Philippines, Rolando found himself drowning in the endless and effortless beauty of a young American women, Pauline. After an elegant engagement ring somehow found its way to Pauline’s delicate finger and a daughter came into the picture, they decided to move the the States. For Pauline, it was a return to the life she had always known. For Rolando, it was an opportunity for a new life for his newly formed family.

Robert Lakewood: Marty Juco

The enthusiastic host of the country’s most watched reality talent search, American Superstar, Robert Lakewood boosts audiences morale as he encourages them to vote for their favorite contestants. Lakewood has been in the business of bringing undiscovered talent to the spotlight long enough to know who audiences will respond to and who they will reject. But what happens when he is confronted with a potential American Superstar who has yet to realise her worth?

Alex Carter: Alex Martinez

A former pop-star and heartthrob of the early 90’s, Alex Carter, the youngest step-brother of Nick Carter, is the first heart won by Katrina. Her refreshingly sweet image reminds Alex of his short, but successful career and lives his dreams out through her.

Princess Patty: Patricia Capiral

Managing high-class talent like Beyonce, Cher and Rebecca Black, is just pop-sensation Princess Patty’s side job. When she isn’t performing her latest song, “I’m Royal”, she’s either grabbing some Starbucks or looking for the next American Superstar. But the Princess is tough to please. Will Katrina win her over with her genuine performances or will she fail from fear?

AdoBoy: Zach Chaco

Still riding high on the success of his debut album “$iniGang$ta”, including top 40 hits “Drop bahags, not bombs”, “New Tae”, and “Ooh Patayin’ Sila”, AdoBoy’s got bars on his bars. He seems to like Katrina’s voice, as well as her look, but to be honest, nobody can ever really pick up what he’s throwin’ down.

Luke: Jesse Raymundo

As one of Katrina’s best friends and potential love interests during her life in the Philippines, Luke obliviously and lovingly sticks by her side. Warm memories of Luke and Katrina’s participation in a tinikling dance contest in the Philippines resurface during her time on American Superstar, providing her with a reminder of the life she once lived and its importance to her current life.

Carmina: Ann Mariano

Carmina is Katrina and Luke’s light-hearted, fun-loving friend from the Philippines. She’s the best tinikling dancer in their school, but when she gets distracted the tinikling team must lean on Katrina to take home the title of Manila’s Best Tinikling Team.

Becka is a contestant from Palos Verdes, California, and she's also the President of her sorority.

Isang Pangarap is an original production for USC Troy Phi's Pilipino American Culture Night. 

About Isang Pangarap: In this year's skit, follow Katrina Quizon on a musical adventure as she auditions to become the next American Superstar. From the time she was a child in the Philippines, Katrina has always dreamed of fame and stardom through her ability to sing. But despite her excitement, she finds startling parallels between the events in her past and present.
