So, how many of you saw Howard for the first time, out of context, and thought he was a woman? I guarantee its at least a few. He has a very feminine disposition, admittedly, in comparison to Phillip, and the few other male characters seen in game.

And I noticed that, and I didn't think anything of it at first. And then I saw Howards mom for the first time.

And then, once I got past the rightful concern, I went back and looked again. And I thought-

"Huh. Howard actually looks a lot like his mom."

Like. Maybe it's just the art style. But when you put them next to each other-

Outside of a slight difference in eyelash placement and haircut, he's the spitting image of his mother.

Which i thought was cool! I still think so. But then I got to this one little bit of mirror dialouge.

And that got the gears in my brain turning.

Theoretically, it could be because of the mirror using his face to spook him. But this seems like such a sincere line from him, it feels like something he's been struggling with. I feel like he'd be more freaked out about it if it was just because of the mirror being creepy.

And then I thought, "What if the reason he doesn't like mirrors, or his own face, is because all he can see is his own mother staring back at him?"
