most of all I was downright confused at how often this game expects me to extend sympathy to cops. at the very start of my character's journey, having chosen the "street kid" background, I found myself being caught red-handed by a cop, but he let me go, and the game expects me to believe this is because he has "honor." fucking weird first impression. then i find out half the firefights i get into are apparently explicitly to help the cops, and unlike all the gang members i fight, killing cops doesn't give me any XP. then the game expects me to feel sad for my cop neighbor because his tortoise died.

meanwhile the gangs are treated with all the nuance of a sledgehammer. I genuinely like the Mox faction, but found myself unable to join them or really engage with them beyond traipsing around their territory for one or two story quests. The Maelstrom might as well be orcs, mostly existing to look scary and be morally uncomplicated evildoers for you to kill. the whole game's values are just so fucking wacky. why is the game expecting me to willingly pal around with a corpo hitman? why is the game expecting me to want to fuck a corpo lady? why can't i call them fucking pieces of shit to their faces? then the game expects me to take it seriously when my character throws the word "terrorist" at Johnny Silverhand as if it's a slur (lmao). extremely unserious game.

when i turn my brain off and listen to a podcast there's genuinely some fun to be had here with the shooting and buildcrafting weird cyborg shit (i'm going for a stealth quickhacking thing) but man the writing is just so ass.

I just don't get it. Not only is the image of Kodlak almost AS CLOTHED AS HE POSSIBLY COULD BE, the only piece of equipment he is not wearing is a helmet, showing his old guy visage.
