Wochenende es una película "sin imágenes", dirigida por Walter Ruttmann en 1930, cuya peculiaridad consiste en utilizar sólo la banda sonora de una película ...
Project 3: Weekend - Remix
Project 3: “1 Minute - Weekend” Audio/Video Remix/Mash Video 10 points Create your storyboard, sound mix. Shoot, record, mix it... (2 Student - Project)
Submission week 7 of term
Bring your storyboard to the next class. If you have taken the material from the web, make a screenshot of every keyframe and order it in a storyboard. In the next class we want to revise your edit, screen it, discuss it, make changes on your computers, and screen it again. Final submission will be a week later.
So, how should the remix be
1) The original soundart work by Walter Ruttmann can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfGdlajO2EQ
2) Some information about Walter Ruttmann - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Ruttmann
3) An example for a sound remix - http://www.medienkunstnetz.de/works/weekend-remix/images/2/ and http://www.br.de/radio/bayern2/inhalt/hoerspiel-und-medienkunst/ruttmann-weekend-remix-hoerspiel-medienkunst100.html (klick the videos to listen to the remix)
"Everything audible in the world becomes material." Tones and sounds should exist in their own right.
4) Use the audio as a source of inspiration and create your own inspired remix audio with found footage from YouTube or any other web resource (archive.org possible)
5) The length should be at least one minute and not shorter. If its longer, cause it has to be longer, that should not be a problem, but there should be a reason or a necessity why this will be the case.
6) here a random found footage remix video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTmcEj-kn5Y
7) Record your own sounds and add them to the found footages!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT! Have at least 2 recorded single sounds embedded in the project ....
8) submit the video again as h264 mp4 HD
9) You are free. Make something meaningful. Say something! Its your WEEKEND!
Comparaison de séquences, plans, cadrages ou idées similaires chez les réalisateur Andreï Tarkovsky et Lars Von Trier.
Film, Editing and Video Essay
I just like to put up a couple of of links regarding film, editing, and the video essay.
The first one is about appreciation and how lars von Trier is inspired by Tarkovsky's films - https://vimeo.com/185789013 Of course, this has something to do with our last homework, where I tried to challenge you that the task is not just simple to reproduce the selected scene, but also to be inspired and creative, adding your view, your personal view.
The following link is a classic video essay in appreciation of cinema, which Kerem from Ankara Filmfestival pointed out for a program they want to do in 2017, and Sera's work somehow an attitude pointing towards this - https://vimeo.com/68514760
Here is a more general link to a selection of video essays from 2015 which received seriously good feedback - https://www.fandor.com/keyframe/poll-the-best-video-essays-of-2015
and from this selection check out the following ones - https://vimeo.com/138829554 - editing as punctuation https://vimeo.com/134700631 - film theory chapter 3 faces - I have to say, that most of the student work I see is not working with or for the faces in their shots .... https://vimeo.com/122702786 - Akira Kurosawa composing movement - here is a lot to learn ... and a special https://www.fandor.com/keyframe/kiyoshi-kurosawas-cinema-of-penance?utm_campaign=kf&utm_source=keyframe
Directed by Peter Strickland. With Toby Jones, Antonio Mancino, Guido Adorni, Susanna Cappellaro. A sound engineer's work for an Italian horror studio becomes a terrifying case of life imitating art.

Notes on Sound
Lesson with Yusuf Akcura - Notes by Melih:
- The importance of rehearsal for on location sound recording, before shooting
- lavalier mic and wireless systems
- the basics of recording audio for digital video (video from youtube)
- We have to record sound how we hear them.
- Using zoom gives the freedom of detachment from the camera.
- Between -20 -12 is the safe level for recording on zoom recorder
- On Saving Private Ryan's beach scene camera movements adds up to sound and creates greater tension.
Project 2: The Waiting - A Remake
Hi there,
Mert Can send me a message asking about the new project. I'd like to share my answer with all of you. First here the project description -
Project 2: 10 Points Up to 90 seconds short film: The Waiting. A Remake. A simple video story improvised on campus based on a movie scene featuring one or more specific montage techniques: Parallel editing, Cut-Away ... Example: Hitchcock, North by Northwest and Arizona Dream (Group project of 3 students).
My answer: Dear Mert Can,
its a film. Find a scene from a famous or classic film, which has some editing relevance, and make on campus a remake of it. For example, take the famous waiting scene from Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, which was remade in “Arizona Dream”, you would reshoot it on campus, find a cross road with no-one around and repeat Hitchcock’s shots …. Bring the original and your remake to the next class.
What I would do - just as another tip - is to make a detailed shot list of the scene you want to re-shoot or re-make. For example, you could take screen shots... Then find a suitable place on campus ... and then think how you could adapt it, like if you would choose North by Northwest, how do you do the airplane? A drone attacking, a car? ve saire
