Day 13; In Clothes Called Fat
Day 14; The Apothecary Diaries Vol 4, Like a Butterfly Vols 7 & 8
(Vol 7) I don’t like/care for the aspects that are side characters trying to break them apart. Whether it be Aya just looking out for Suiren & not seeing why she likes Kawasumi. Or Atohira calling it like he sees it. While his remarks do seem to accidentally push them together, Kawasumi isn’t him. He isn’t going to do things the way the typical couple will. Nor will Suiren. And it’s just annoying at times.
(Vol 8) Absolutely love the budding relationship b/t Ryosuke and Mina. Him asking random questions as to keep what little conversation they have going. Don't mind them mutually yearning over the other but I really hope they don't pull a miscommunication bit b/t them. Their dynamic is really cute though.
Atohira & Kawasumi don't feel like friends but rather people who run in the same circles (karate). Also why does Aya think Atohira is cool? Like definitely could see them being friends but need a little bit more.
Clarification from reading the wiki; okay, so they're acquaintances, not friends. But Atohira is friends w/ Kawasumi's older brother → also chpt. 53
"We're searching for our tangent points."
Welp, they do a bout of miscommunication, but w/ Kawasumi & Suiren
Day 15; Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Vol 5
Day 16; Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Vol 5, You Died: An Anthology, & A Pocketful of Poems
Day 17; Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Vol 6, Zero's Familiar Vol 3, & When Daddy Prays
Day 18; Zero's Familiar Vol 4
I have a sneaking suspicion that Wardes is only interested in marrying Louise as a means of gaining upward mobility. From that of a square mage to a noble. Plus he definitely knows the hold he has over Louise as well—him being a childhood crush for Louise and saving her repeatedly from bullying. It's a strange dynamic for sure though. Also didn't expect Louise and Saito to catch actual feelings for one another—what with Saito being a horn-dog with the mix of occasional pet play. But I wouldn't be opposed to them being endgame as it is oddly cute. Them being more similar in age than Louise and Wardes. But there's still the conflict of getting Saito back to Japan and how them potentially coupling up would affect that.
Day 19; Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Vol 7
Days 20-22; All These Ghosts
Day 23; Villains Are Destined to Died Vol 1, & The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All Vol 3
Day 24; Once a City Said: A Louisville Poets Anthology
Favorite poems/pieces in the anthology; Community - Robin Garner & Rubbertown - Steve Cambron
I tried but I can’t figure out how to read Ceremonial for the World Dainty Championship
Pg. 51 - “all warnings to not dare challenge your own holocaust or seek your liberation without permission.” → you immediately lose me the moment you directly compare any atrocity that isn't the Holocaust to the Holocaust. B/c to me, it tells me you don't understand the historical impact of the Holocaust. And it undermines what you're comparing it to
Pg. 55 - “…Gesturing to white Athens, when really, he is calling to white Spartans.” → once again, this line doesn't work/ is rather weak. I get what it's trying to say; hey, here's a guy elected to represent us as citizens but is acting as if he doesn't have the power of that elected position. he's acting as if he still a layman which he is not. his hands are truly not tied like he is saying. it's meant to call out this hypocrisy. It'd ironically work better w/o the specification of 'white' here
Pg. 69 - “…forgotten hamlet of freed slaves…” are you meaning to invoke Ham from the bible or Hamlet from Shakespeare's Hamlet like written?
Pg. 78 - “…how count your blessings implies a stacking of gratitude you can withdraw from some inevitable someday when it may be worse but that will never come to be sweetheart…”
implies a stacking → implies a stack
there needs to be a few commas added. in the current format, it's a bad use of a run-on sentence
Pg. 80 - “…if I think we in this sense I think Bergson’s notion of open totality as in opposition to herd…” → as in opposition to herd what? herd mentality? a herd?
Pg. 84 “the city cannot hold. such hardship so concentrated and so continuous, terrified the majority onto the expressway that is a belt around the city.” → switch the 'and' b/t the so concentrated and so continuous parts to a comma. terrified→ it terrifies.
“in the many faces, you can see we are still fighting the civil war. the center cannot.” → currently, 'the center cannot' is an extremely short sentence fragment that can easily be added to the line before it
Day 25; Zero's Familiar Vol 5
Okay, glad I read the situation with Wardes correctly. Did further think that he could possibly be a part of the Reconquista grip but thought it too much of a stretch. Was just confident that something murky was happening with the marriage based on how he was treating Louise and her uncertainty.
The general of the Reconquista being named Oliver Cromwell → so you have at least 1 historical allegory going on here & a 2nd one being set up. The Reconquista in this series already reflecting their historical counterpart in them wanting to conquer Halkeginia. And with the mention of Oliver Cromwell, there'll most likely be some execution down the line. Seeing that the irl Cromwell executed Charles I.
"You've never seen a poisonous dart frog?" Tempest asked Noir. Not all too surprised, after witnessing his infatuation towards the Rubix cube. Going as far as teaching Tempest how to solve one, despite coming from a universe cloaked in grayscale. It became a shared fidget toy between the two of them.
"No. Is that a bad thing?" He asked. Noir's fascination shifting away from the Rubix cube, towards zheir spidersuit. To him, it was various shades of black, gray, and white. Ones that oddly managed to be loud to his vision as well.
"Not at all. It's what I modeled it off of, color-wise. They're quite vibrant, acts a visual warning. That I'm dangerous." Ironically sounding like an edgelord. "Kinda the polar opposite of yours," Tempest tossed the Rubix cube, now jumbled up, to Noir.
"I don't see how you manage to be remotely stealthy," Noir remarked, not having to look at the cube as he started to solve it. Only managing to solve it half-way. Usually letting Tempest solve the other half.
"You also don't see how you stick out like a sore thumb here." Neuva York being just as bright as zhem and zheir suit. Then again, Noir didn't need to see color to sense how bright Tempest was. Zheir personality spoke for itself. How lively zhey were.
Noir, feeling the need to cover zheir six so to speak, lent Tempest his trench coat. Another thing that moved between the two of them.
I’m gonna look more into it some more (have read the Iliad, haven’t read the Odyssey) but from what ik about the Odyssey, Nolan didn’t seem to change anything too major outside of the Cyclops—nothing thing. And that was very much a ‘dude, why did you change that?’ But like he very much got all the story beats that were needed. Would definitely say to go into less as an adaptation and more as a Christopher Nolan movie. Which I know is the same vibes as saying ‘it’s not a bad book, you just gotta turn your brain off to like it,’ but still.
Also I watched the Joaquin Phoenix Napoleon movie eons ago in theatres and remembered walking out of that, saying how I didn’t ask for war simulator. Just with how loud and in your face it was. And I bring that up because this one had the same issue when it came to the scene where it’s storming and the last bit of Odysseus’ men die before he ends up Calypso. With how the dark the theatre was, just kept getting flashbanged by the lightning.
There was also a few bits with the violence and killing where they kept swinging the camera way too much. Like I don’t literally need to be in Matt Damon’s damn skin suit. Some of said violence also circled around to being funny at points with how much there was.
Robert Pattinson when he’s given Elliot Page’s lot and then being scared shitless when the beggar turned out to be Odysseus—Macbeth dinner scene where he sees the one dude’s ghost across the table
Odysseus seeing the girl (Zendaya) be killed as the statue’s head is also cut off—pretty sure that was the whole God in disguise thing or at least that’s how I take it, him knowing for sure they broke the law of Zeus
After watching this movie and the TV show Love & Death, there’s a fun game of ‘how many marvel/superhero actors can I spot?’
(Vol 4) I’m not too enthralled by this serious but I do find the allegory between horror & queerness extremely intriguing. Especially between this series & This Monster Wants to Eat Me. The differences/similarities between the characters & the relationships that I’m unable to really put into words, succinctly as least. How they’re shaped by whether the character is inhuman or human.
While I vaguely enjoyed the daily-life arc as the author puts it (volumes 1-3), I think it’s this mystery solving arc that will pull my interest. Plan to watch the anime version after finishing the manga. Pretty sure the series is completed. Especially the guy with the hamster. Like is he going to help them or not? And what the whole investigation he’s doing, jobwise + the company. Like what are his motivations towards Hikaru?
(Vol 5) Idk why but I thought when “Hikaru” woke up from having his neck sliced off, he would’ve swapped back to being the real Hikaru. Thing is there was no inclination given that that would happen.
“Hikaru Indou was like the main character in a manga” Really? We’re doing this now?
Day 2; Sheets - Brenna Thummler
The past year or so, I've noticed a slight increase in the number of graphic novels dealing w/ grief. Usually written by people in their 30s as a mean of writing about dealing w/ their parents' or a close relative's death. Also started reading a collection of Emily Dickinson poems, got 50 pages in.
Day 3; Phantom Busters Vol 1 & The Summer Hikaru Died Vol 6
Day 4; Castle Swimmer Vol 3 - Wendy Martin
Hungry Ghost - Victoria Ying & Lynette Wong
I've enjoyed all of the graphic novels that I've read, published by First Second so far. And like the other titles, this graphic novel deals with heavy subject matter. It covers a teenage girl's struggles with an eating disorder before going on a school trip to Paris. A lot of it striving from the pressures to be the perfect daughter and reflect a positive image upon her family, being Chinese-American. Her father being akin to an adrenaline junkie, dies while flying a plane to go climb mount Everest (up to Base Camp 1). In this grief, she begins to question these pressures placed on her; if she truly has to be thin to be happy and if that happiness can come from somewhere else. Will say, part of this recovery is that she sees how happy and confident her friend is, who is fat. But she does, in a low moment lash out at said friend and there is some fatphobia there. They do reconcile as friends but still. I don't really know how I exactly feel about it.
Days 5-11; Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir (audiobook)
I'm listening to the audiobook for this. Was on the waitlist for a few months, after watching the movie adaptation
It's interesting that the computer kept the dead astronauts' bodies instead of just chucking them into the void that is space → chpt 2; nvm, Grace chucked them
Picturing it (all the equipment (valves/ lines) along the hull) akin to how cars have the lines labeled for you to jump start a dead battery
"I just wanted some stabby time." Mood
The realistic edge that is some of the parents being anti-science + not believing in climate change
Dedication being to the Beatles + the hard drives being named after the Beatles → that one thing of Earth history sent into space ??? — no, they literally look like beetles. After meeting the guy obsessed w/ the Beatles -- I KNEW IT
The astrophage reminds me of tardigrades
Choosing to work in the middle of the ocean in case the energy from the astrophage nuke → seems reminiscent of the Bikini Atoll
Grace's memory loss is very reflective of Thomas' in the Maze Runner—in that they both took part in making the shit they enter into in + have memory loss towards
Ah, yes, talking to this alien stranger via welding /lh
I like the dynamic between Dmitri & Grace. + a third of the way in, I find Stratt's dry communication amusing
Grace constantly having a science boner, is a wee bit of fluff that could've been cut out but I like it + keeps it moving
The whole conversation about sleep — get the whole leaky space blob joke. Reminds me of the one tumblr post explaining how the human body is just an enclosed aquarium
The aspect of astrophage as a renewable source of energy w/ the help of solar panels is incredibly fascinating
Grace naming Rocky’s mate Adrian—assigned name by alien /j
Dubois talking about his sexual relations with Annie + everyone thinking there’s something going on b/t him & Strauss—> is this where the bulk of the Ace! Ryland Grace headcanons come from?
Grace not being aware he’s Stratt’s second, being a “guinea pig” in Grace’s words, her having him tested for the gene & not telling him, her seeking him out after he’s been cast out from academia → buddy, she set you up as a backup since the moment y’all met
Do prefer how they went about Rocky saving Grace during the attempt to get an astrophage sample in the movie, but I do also like the greater details of Rocky recovering & Grace trying to take care of him despite the difference in atmosphere/environments
Day 9; Like a Butterfly Vol 6
Day 10; The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Vol
Day 11; Nana & Kaoru Vol 6
Day 12; Zero's Familiar Vol 2 & The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent Vol 2

I might have some of the details wrong here but it’s still wild to me how Brianna goes about introducing herself to Jamie, her dad in Outlander. Cause like dude’s pissing against a wall and she goes up from behind him, all “hey, I’m your daughter.”
Brianna, how about we wait until his dick is back in his kilt. Cause in that moment, you’re a stranger to him. Only thing you got going for you in that moment is that you’re ginger. And probably look like you’re wearing similar attire to your mom as you’ve also obviously time traveled to get here.
Granted, it’s like the lowest on the totem pole in terms of what’s happened in that series. But for some reason, it’s the one thing that pops into my head periodically. Like ‘hey remember that? That was crazy.’ Anyways that’s all for this shit post.
Danny; did you know that if you turn the thermostat down to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and then get under a blanket with a 98 degree person, that the heat between the two of you will be over 3,000 degrees Kelvin?
Danny, throwing Claude’s arm off of him; get the fuck off of me! It’s hot

Reader who ends up regressed and suddenly unable to tell the twins apart. Saddled up on their papa’s hip, Grace lightly bounces them. Paci in mouth, they look across at their uncle—Colt. Making grabby hands. Regressed enough that if he looks like papa, he must be papa. Letting out small grunt-like noises as they wiggle out of Grace’s grasp to get to Colt.
Colt laughs, “hello, little wiggle worm.” Finding Reader’s behavior cute, he entertains it. Mimicking his twin brother, he props Reader on his hip. “Want your uncle, huh?” But Reader sees Grace. Repeating what they had just done. Now insistent on being held by their papa again. Not caring that the behavior was contradictory or indecisive. Handed back and forth between the twins a few more times before the confusion hurt their regressed mindset.
“I know, I know. It’s confusing having two caregivers who look the exact same. Don’t have to choose, can be held by both of us,” Grace consoled. The twins going over the couch so the little could sit between them. Colt offering Dez his plushie that oddly resembled Rocky. Grace had purposefully bought it because of that aspect.
Jean-Claude lying down on the rug in front of the tv. Inside, they were kept safe away from the rain pelting harshly on the windows.
