when it comes to the things we already have in game. for example to me it feels like there was a rather distinctive gap between say, sumeru's music and natlan's. natlan's has definitely felt the most "modern" to me overall based on what we've had so far. fontaine being second after that bc a lot of it is a classical style over a cultural feel if i can put it that way. but there are more parts using more modern instruments also so. i think that's part of why nod krai has felt really fun to me musically bc it does have a very traditional folk vibe to a lot of things although there is also the odd bit of modern style stuff in there too, for sure, which i have nothing against but it is a fascinating mix to me also since you mentioned zhongli keeping traditional instrumentation more in jadeite (which makes sense i do love that idea) my question is then since the reverse is essentially true in cyanide with childe being from a more modern place/time. would that also be the case yes or no? in childe's case while he does have electric instruments in his themes there is also piano and choir though and while modern piano is kinda its own thing compared to historical pianos and other keyboard instruments like organ and harpsichord i feel like it can blur the line between a modern and. maybe not traditional but less modern vibe. and on that note he does have at the very least organ and maybe harpsichord? it's kinda hard to hear so i'm not sure? in phase 3 of his fight but also looots of electric stuff of course. bit of a wild mix in there. anyway point is he does have some rather old instrumentation choices in there as well as much more modern ones so that's quite versatile. i feel i'm slipping into a ramble about the instrumentation blend in genshin music now but hopefully i made at least some of my questions clear-ish,, failing that i can just experiment and see what happens or if cyanide childe would be more adapting to the older teyvat and liyue. i seem to recall that snezhnaya music is supposedly going to be more baroque-style so there is also the possibility of like. if i were to consider taking the established things for childe. and maybe adding some counterpoint or something which would give it baroque vibes to fit older teyvat. bc that would add a more historical thing while probably not being too far from some of the style or at least it might be a reasonable possibility this is probably a lot my apologies if any of it doesn't make sense,,

no yeah i know less than you abt this. i think the 'modern vibe' from music, at least to me, comes from which instruments are used and how the composition is handled? genshin already does this a lot, using traditional instruments w shit like trap beats, which i think are absolutely a modern thing. like rex incognito for example is wholly traditional during the iron-tongue tian portion, then the beat drops w the character card and you get hit w the backing trap beats but outside of it the instrumentation is still traditional. and then they add electric guitars with the ult drop, i'd argue making the entirre portion immediately after up until zhongli starts speaking again largely modern in style (w traditional inspiration ofc)

but then you have shit like xilonen and nefer's trailers which are wholly modern and nothing else. i think. i can't remember atm i watched each like once and have never felt the need to watch/hear them since. ororon's trailer is all modern too. .....................like all of natlan is super modern i can't think rn of a single traditional/old sounding trailer. kachina i guess but even then it sounds like modern folklore festivities. not like how liyue gets nice blends. keqing is very modern. baizhu is super traditional. gaming is modern arrangement of traditional (if that makes sense). hu tao is modern w traditional instrumentation, like everything about it is modern w the exception of which instruments are being used. etc. maybe i'm completely wrong abt all of this idk someone who actually knows abt this please pitch in

i still think the primary problem w lohen as a character and how he hits the community isn't necessarily that he's Like That (though i assume that might be part of it); but because we are not actually forced to get to know him whatsoever. like i have seen him in the distance in dornman port but i wasn't railroaded into talking to him. i know he has a story quest (i think??? i'd hope) but it's not mandatory. he's not in any event that i know of atm (not done w fontinalia). he's not in any archon quest yet. this creates the situation where the only people who will bother to learn about him are people predisposed to liking his portrayed characterization of 'anime bishonen a little off his rocker who poisons his knives and pitches his voice high when committing violence (assumption) and would prob lick the blood (and poison lbr) off of his knives after *stabbing you cutely* with darkened anime eyes w little red pinpricks that are maybe hearts if you're really down bad for him'; which is what they're trying to sell. whether that's what he actually is is irrelevant. that's how he's being sold and that's the facade he has if it's a facade at all and so those who don't care for that kinda stuff will steer clear of him and those that are willing to engage will get to know more. but just because there's more doesn't erase the fact that all that other stuff is also there on purpose. again whether that's a missdirection or he's being fake is irrelevant. whereas i think the situation with childe was more to do with......... reading comprehension................................ and what your views of the traveler were. you're forced to interact w childe so they had the chance to actually somewhat develop his character and the idea of his facade without establishing it as something potentially like. idk. end-all-be-all. like they had the chance to give him nuance. i'd argue you really don't need the teucer storyline for this tho it obviously helps. the teucer storyline only puts everything about this into perspective, makes it obvious to those who weren't paying much attention during the world quest (not invalid). his trailer only makes this even more evident.

genuinely? i don't give it that much thought. but it probably would be something that goes along their already established musical motifs? most of my fics take place in liyue so most of it would be liyue-based. then again, most of my fics are childe-centric. so probably an adaptation of childe's themes into the liyue themes??? w zhongli also there obviously. jadeite is a lot more modern so it'd be modern tunes but liyue specific. but since zl is from the past he'd probably keep the traditional instrumentation whenever the scene calls for it. qiqi too but more subtle

Personally I think the interesting interpretations of Illuga and his tolerance of khuuvhaki/being able to eat mandragora are more fun to think about- but both of them are kinda neat.
