Commander Hange Zoe survived The Rumbling only to inherit a world balanced on a knife’s edge.

Then Levi reappears. The man who had been her comrade, friend, and lover. After years of silence, he materializes before her without a word of explanation. Unchanged in all the ways that matter, and yet entirely distant.

She’s left to wrestle with an agonizing question: Why did he leave? And could any part of their relationship have endured in this world built on ashes?

Levi is walking way too slowly, as if fearful of making a rash movement around her. As if she were going to… what? Explode? Contrary to popular belief, time has taught her that, out of the two of them, she’s the less unpredictable one.

He stops next to the bed, opposite her. He looks at home in this place—because it is, isn’t it? Unbeknownst to her, he’s been here all this time. That knowledge makes her grind her teeth.

When he sits down, she stands up.
