After moving away, Valya and Zhenya didn’t talk. Zhenya didn’t even text Valya asking why the hell he had left so suddenly without warning him! Pride and resentment got in the way. Besides, why would Valya pick up the phone for someone who had blackmailed him throughout his entire fourth year of college?

What would Zhenya even say to him? -Like, “Sorry for being an asshole and still being an asshole?” -Like, “Sorry for getting together with my ex even though I’m in love with you!”

It sounds humiliating. Calling him at night when you don’t even understand what the hell you’re saying is humiliating.

Valya may have left without saying anything, but he still misses him. He misses those brief moments when Zhenya would open up a little and wasn’t so harsh. Maybe he misses the old Zhenya a little. Definitely not whoever is “Zhenya” now.

He picked up the phone. Maybe Zhenya had finally come to his senses? Maybe something could still work out? Of course not.
