BRAWLER !

⟨⟨    ◟    *    @arrowsfly​    /    ashe    .     𝚜𝚘𝚏𝚝  &  𝚋𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚠𝚎𝚎𝚝  .                 ↳    𝐰𝐞   𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭   𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝   𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠   𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞  .

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊  𝐀𝐓  𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌  ,   𝐍𝐎𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐘'𝐒  𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐍  .   not  at  more  ,   anyway  .   raphael  shifts  in  the  pew  ,   it’s  not  right  ---   he’s  never  fit  here  .   certainly  not  in  the  literal  sense  ,   but  also  in  a  less - occupied  way  as  well  .   spiritually  ,   it  felt  wrong  to  sit  here  next  to  his  friend  .   he  who  still  found  a  way  to  sound  kind  even  with  the  pain  of  loss  still  fresh  .

raphael  doesn’t  know  how  to  tell  him  it  will  always  be  fresh  ,   until  he’s  very  old  and  even  then  ---   sometimes  it  will  emerge  from  nowhere  .   instead  ,   he  puts  a  big  palm  to  ashe’s  back  .

⟨⟨    ◟    *    @falselord​    /    𝚜𝚘𝚏𝚝  &  𝚋𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚠𝚎𝚎𝚝  .                  ↳    𝐢’𝐯𝐞   𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝   𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬  .

𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍  𝐇𝐄  𝐈𝐒  𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐄  ,   to  an  extent  ,   the  logical  leap  required  to  approach  him  with  such  a  topic  of  conversation  .   but  raphael  isn’t  so  inclined  to  looking  dinnertime  talk  in  the  mouth  ---   his  joke  goes  unsaid  ,   though  he  smiles  at  it  .

he  would’ve  smiled  anyway  .   the  idea  that  other  people  knowing  would  matter  at  all  is  laughable  .   his  laugh  is  big  as  thunder  ,   booming - loud  .   even  those  with  frayed  nerves  know  the  sound  ,   and  do  not  flinch  away  from  it  .   raphael  shrugs  .

“    𝚠𝚎𝚕𝚕  ,   𝚒𝚝'𝚜  𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢  𝚗𝚘𝚝  𝚖𝚞𝚌𝚑  𝚘𝚏  𝚊  𝚛𝚞𝚖𝚘𝚞𝚛  .    ”    he  says  ,   as  if  it  doesn’t  occur  to  him  that  yuri’s  phrasing  might  be  threatening  .    “    lorenz  didn’t  know  ,   he’s  an  awful  liar  ---   i’d  be  able  to  tell  .   and  none  of  us  are  our  dads  ,   i  couldn’t  punish  a  friend  for  something  his  pa  did  .    ”

raphael  is  complicated  in  that  oftentimes  he  will  believe  what  he  is  told  at  face - value  .   not  only  because  he  isn’t  the  brightest  ,   but  because  he’s  pretty  trusting  .   he  does  not  give  two  fucks  about  if  someone  is  a  noble  because  claude  said  on  basically  the  first  day  that  at  the  academy  ,   everyone  would  be  treated  equally  .   so  that  means  he’s  on  a  first - name  basis  ,   treating  princesses  and  lords  with  the  same  exuberant  affection  that  he  does  his  lifelong  friends  .

it  doesn’t  take  a  lot  to  manipulate  raph  ,   he’s  gullible  as  hell  .   but  he’s  also  very  protective  of  himself   (  he  has  to  be  ,   nobody  else  is  going  to  take  care  of  him  )   ,   if  someone  tries  to  purposefully  and  intentionally  lead  him  astray  for  their  own  gain  he  gets  pissed  .   while  he  is  a  forgiving  soul  ,   such  slights  will  not  be  quickly  forgotten  .

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄  𝐈𝐒  𝐖𝐎𝐍  .   raphael  embraces  the  euphoria  as  readily  as  claude  does  him  ,   a  pair  of  arms  wrapping  most  of  the  way  around  his  torso  .   strong  as  raph  is  ,   he  can’t  deny  the  strength  of  his  friend  .   he  grips  him  tight  and  gives  his  back  a  heavy - handed  pat  .   there  are  fewer  things  finer  in  the  world  .

𝐇𝐈𝐒  𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄  𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐒  𝐀𝐑𝐄  𝐏𝐎𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐘  ,   unbefitting  of  a  knight  .   though  he  finds  it  easier  to  haul  off  and  hit  things  hard  with  his  fists  more - so  than  relying  on  mere  weapons  .   raphael  realizes  with  a  somber  sigh  that  it  would  be  improper  for  him  to  be  outmatched  in  such  a  way  .   and  if  he  is  to  be  a  proper  cavalier  ,   he  shall  have  to  get  better  at  keeping  things  in  his  hands  .

𝐈𝐓  𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐓  𝐁𝐄  𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐑  𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄  𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍  𝐇𝐄𝐑  𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄  .   she  bundles  up  a  little  like  one  of  maya’s  dolls  ,   the  snow  queen  .   done  up  with  glassy  ,   blue  eyes  and  white  hair  .   saoirse  looks  a  little  limp  ,   sitting  there  all  alone  .   raphael  wonders  if  she  might’ve  been  made  by  a  toymaker  ,   too  .

𝐇𝐄'𝐒  𝐀𝐋𝐋  𝐀𝐆𝐋𝐎𝐖  ,   𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐃  𝐎𝐅  𝐀𝐍  𝐔𝐍𝐒𝐀𝐈𝐃  𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐀  .   and  when  he  sees  her  coming  ,   raphael  sits  down  on  the  stairs  leading  to  the  empty  market  with  a  deep  sigh  .   he  holds  up  a  hand  in  greeting  before  booming  ,

“    𝚑𝚎𝚢  ,   𝚋𝚎𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚎  !!   𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎  𝚢𝚘𝚞  𝚊𝚛𝚎  .    ”    he  shifts  ,   leaning  in  as  she  comes  closer  .    “    been  lookin’  for  you  all  over  the  place  ,   on  account  of  this  thought  i  had  .   instead  of  me  turnin’  around  when  we  practice  talkin’  ,   what  if  i  just  sat  down  ?    ”

“    𝚊𝚕𝚕  𝚛𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝  ,   𝚒'𝚖  𝚙𝚛𝚎𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚎𝚍  𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜  𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚎  ,    ”    he  announces  ,   hands  on  his  hips  and  towering  over  ingrid  in  the  entrance  hall  .   raphael  looks  very  determined  ,   though  the  expression  of  confidence  is  broken  up  by  a  friendly  smile  .    “    i’ve  had  dinner  and  i’m  ready  to  listen  ,   and  i  mean  really  listen  this  time  !!    ”

he  knows  it  isn’t  fair  to  give  up  on  his  friends  half - way  through  them  pouring  their  hearts  out  .   so  he  sits  down  next  to  her  ,   remembering  to  keep  his  elbows  off  the  table  .

𝚏𝚕𝚊𝚜𝚑  𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚌𝚊𝚗𝚘𝚗𝚜  :

raphael's  grandfather  is  where  he  gets  the  tall  gene  from  ,   pieter  kirsten  is  a  6′7  former  typesetter  .

but  his  father  and  mother  were  5′3  and  5′4  respectively  .   raph  towered  over  them  by  the  time  he  was  twelve  .

while  that  might  have  made  discipline  difficult  for  anyone  else  ,   he  was  always  a  good   ---  if  rambunctious  ---   child  who  didn’t  want  to  cause  more  trouble  for  his  pa  and  ma  .

the  happiest  day  of  his  life  was  when  his  little  sister  ,   maya  was  born  .   they  were  thick  as  thieves  from  the  very  beginning  .

they  have  a  five  year  age  gap  and  he  very  proudly  related  to  anyone  who  would  listen  when  he  was  six  that  he  taught  his  little  sis  how  to  walk .

he  doesn’t  like  hurting  people  ,   it  genuinely  doesn’t  sit  right  with  him  but  he  punched  out  gerrit  van  mander  when  he  wouldn’t  stop  yanking  on  maya’s  pigtails  .

despite  his  relentless  pursuit  of  traditionally  masculine  goals  /  career  aspirations  ,   raphael  tries  to  stay  in  touch  with  his  emotions  .   he  isn’t  afraid  of  feeling  ,   even  if  his  feelings  confuse  him  .
