ahh yeah ive read about that ! its not necessarily an island, but an enourmous swatch of ocean where garbage (mainly discarded bits of non-biodegradable plastic ) is trapped in repeating underwater currents and exchanged through various similar patches of waste throughout the globe 

while some of the animals living in and around these patches seem unaffected, theres been MANY reports of birds and fish being cut open, guts full of plastic pieces, unable to digest the colorful bits and choked out in the ever-growing massthe pacific one is supposedly the largest and roughly covers around 5000 km, but because the vast majority of the patch is made up of tiny particles of plastic thatre often invisible to the naked eye, its impossible to accurately measure the true size and depth of it. this is one of the creatures that haunts it
