Calling him a “consent king” is not about glorifying the bare minimum. It is about highlighting something that is often missing in this genre. If anything, it can intrigue more people to explore a character who balances darkness with respect for consent and autonomy. That contrast is what makes him feel refreshing, and that’s why I often see so many girlies say that Sylus helped them heal, especially in terms of valuing consent and personal freedom. It shows how many people are drawn to a character who has darker elements but whose core traits are respect and autonomy. Also, talking about his value toward consent and freedom helps debunk the mischaracterizations some people make about him in the fandom, especially when they unfairly compare him to typical toxic BookTok male leads. Calling him a “king of consent” reinforces the idea that not every dark romance has to be toxic or lacking consent. A character can be dark and still respect consent.
