light 'em up

Oh, yeah, well… If I was Ben Affleck, I would ask everybody to burn their copies of that movie. I mean, it was bad. Nobody likes that movie. Obviously, Daredevil isn’t the coolest superhero, but that movie could have been so much better. He does have a pretty interesting story. And, yeah, if I was them, I would scrap all those writers and get a new team to write this new movie… But do you think they did that? I highly doubt it. It’s probably going to have just as many plot holes, to be honest. 

Yeah but if Daredevil was bad the Elektra was even worse.  I mean, not to fault either of them as actors but what the actual fuck were the writers thinking?  If there is one thing I've learned it's that screenwriters are not the best at adapting the subtle details of comic books to the silver screen.  That's a shame.  We'll just have to ignore the plot holes if we wanna enjoy the movie.

Yeah, y’know, after Man of Steel… I’m kind of worried about Batman vs Superman too. I mean, no offense to Ben Affleck, but I just can’t see him as Batman, and if they got the same writing team that they did for Man of Steel to do this one… Oh, man, they’re in serious trouble. I want to keep my hopes up, and I’ll probably see it either way, but I really hope they take the things they did wrong in Man of Steel and try to improve upon it. 

Yeah I think part of my issue is I'll never be able to unsee Affleck as Daredevil from that flop movie.  The only saving grace about that was Jennifer Garner.  Yeah, that's why I've got no faith left in the writers.  I mean, they did so many things wrong in the last movie I can't imagine this one being much better.

“We’ve had sex more times than I can count all over my club too, and I would be upset if you broke in there as well.” He countered with a slight smile. “Fucked in does not equal allowed to break in. If that was the case there would be a lot of places I would have full access to.” He smile grew into a grin as he shook his head slightly. “Careful Tori, or I’ll start being stingy and you will have to go back to drinking the crappy ass booze you can afford instead of my good stuff.” He threatened playfully. His eyebrows rose slightly at her comment, “It’s a wonder I’m still clean when I’m around myself all the time. Do you know how much of a tease it is to handle on a daily basis what you can’t have?” He shook his head, his arms crossing over his chest, “I must be a masochist or clinically insane.” Truth be told there were often days where he was tempted to draw out a line of his own product. How easy it would be to simply fall back into old patterns when he was surrounded by the very substance that had caused him so much trouble.

“You and me both.  But that’s a topic for a different day.  I’ve spent the night here enough that I didn’t think you’d care.”  She shrugged slightly and sighed.  If he did care she just wouldn’t do it again.  It wasn’t that big of a deal.  At least Tori didn’t think it was.  There were much bigger issues they could have dealt with instead of worrying about instead of fretting over if Tori even belonged there.  She felt so at ease around Kieren it sort of seemed like she did, but that wasn’t something she liked to give much thought to.  It was scary, if she was being honest with herself.  However, most feelings were and there was no way to get around them regardless of how hard you tried. 

"It’s probably not, but neither is not sleeping. It’s fine Tori, I’m used to them. They get worse from time to time, but that’s normal too. It’s fine. I’ll be fine." 

"Yeah and if you aren't careful something is going to happen to you.  You've gotta take care of yourself.  Did something happen to make the nightmares worse?"

"Working myself to the point of exhaustion is about the only thing that gives me any relief. Well if that helped i wouldn’t have had nightmares when you’ve stayed the night. Being able to turn back time and stop things from happening would help immensely. Then there wouldn’t be fuel in my head for them. "

"That can't be healthy at all, Kieren.  Yeah, I know you've had nightmares when I'm there.  I can tell and I try to be some help but I'm not.  I wish I knew how to help."

"I don’t know. I haven’t kept track. Honestly it’s been better to not sleep then sleep some nights. Waking up shaking like a child scared of the monsters under your bed isn’t exactly restful." 

"No, I'd imagine it wouldn't be restful at all.  Does anything help?  Melatonin works miracles sometimes.  Also sleeping in the same bed as someone can help.  Or at least it helped me when I was having nightmares."

"You’d get in without waiting in line anyway. Friends and family benefits or something like that. That or your sarcasm isn’t sarcastic enough for it to come across as sarcasm. I… fucked someone last night. I never learned her name. I haven’t had a drink in a few days… because I have to make sure I can go a few days without it and sleep… well.. depends on your definition of sleep." 

"I suppose.  Alright so sleep is probably the culprit.  Have you gotten more than six hours a night in the last week?"

"Well that’s ridiculous. Although the bouncer likes to refer to you as "my girl" so I guess it’s not all that surprising. I know the sings of drug abuse, thank you. But like I said, what they do on their own time is my business. They were sober at the interview and sober at work up until then. I’m careful about that kind of thing, Tori, I’m not an idiot." 

"Well it does have it's benefits, I get right in without waiting in that damn line out front so I don't really mind what he calls me.  I know you know the signs.  You must really be out of it if you're missing my sarcasm, Kieren.  When's the last time you slept, or got laid, or had some scotch?"

"My employees avoid you? Why the fuck for? Oh no, it was worse than that. I had already given them a warning for pushing the line of flirting and harassing customers, and they had seemingly straightened up. But then I caught them stealing from the register while they were clearly high as a kite. Do what you want in your own time, but dont come to work high and for heaven’s sake don’t try to steal from me." 

"Okay avoid might be a strong word.  Really it's only if someone is flirting with someone.  Undoubtedly someone gets elbowed and then they shake their head.  Apparently they think I'm off limits because we're sleeping together?"  She shrugged a little.  "I don't ask. Oh god a strung out thief?  You'd have thought you'd be able to pick up on the signs of drug abuse, Kieren.  Don't tell me your slipping, or were they sober when they interviewed?"

"I have no problem firing people who needed to be fired, but god, listening to their excuses and petitions for another chance is exhausting. You had your chance and you blew it, what more is there to say? I don’t need to explain my reason for firing you ten different ways. This isn’t a court of law, it’s a private business, so stop your whining and get out." 

"This is why you're the boss and I'm the girl your employees avoid.  I would probably punch someone if they started whining because I was firing them for not pulling their weight, and the last thing I need is an assault charge."

The Best Things In Life || Tori & Lucas

It was a relatively slow night at work.  Tori hated those.  She hated when it was nothing but a bunch of the sleazy regulars that had their favorite dancers and continually tried to feel them up.  It was the worst part of her career choice and it never failed to make her wonder what she could do to change careers.  However, when a bachelor party came in with a groom that seemed a little too eager to get a taste of what he’d be missing out on, Tori’s evening improved considerably.  Drunken guys under thirty always were fun because they always spent too much on lap dances and private shows.  They always mistook tens for ones and tossed them on stage during pole routines.  They were always hilarious even when they were trying to slide their hand along her thing.  It was part of the job and Tori had learned to live with it.  In some ways she even enjoyed the attention.

I… well… yes… And of course you do. I mean if you don’t want to I’m sure I could find someone else who is of equal intelligence as you are. This is all assuming I live that long. I mean, I don’t have such a great track record with staying out of trouble. 

I didn't say I didn't want to, Kieren.  I'm just surprised.  You do realize you're talking to the woman who was crying the other day because our pregnancy scare was a false alarm, right?  If you wanted to do the kid thing I'd be on board.

Yes. Well… then… maybe I’ll move it back a few years. Or maybe I just won’t have children at all ever and the world will have to deal with losing my genetic code. No doubt my sisters will have broods of their own and they are almost as smart as I am. 

Move it back a few years so I'm younger and more fertile?  Do I get a say in these hypothetical genius children or do you have the whole ten year plan figured out for me?

I am not overreacting. Maybe. I don’t know. Maybe in ten years, when I have nothing better to do but procreate. Who said anything about a white picket fence? Just because I have spawn doesn’t mean I’m going to turn into my family. Besides, before you get so smug, remember that it’s only by luck we haven’t already procreated together and you could end up being the one stuck with me and whatever demon child we create. 

In ten years you'll have nothing better to do than procreate?  You realize I'll be thirty six in ten years, right?  That's not exactly peak fertility time for your little mini criminal mastermind to take up residence in my uterus.
