But what ifβ¦. Luke goes βI appreciate that youβre trying to take my mind off things by coming up with ridiculous stuff to try and get a laugh out of me, but itβs Not Working.β
Obi-wan: βbut itβs true!β
Luke: βUh huh. Whatβs next, telling me that Iβm the hologram ladyβs long-lost twin?β
Obi-wan: βYes!β
And from this point onward Luke thinks that this is Obi-wanβs attempt at a long-running gag. Obi-wan grows increasingly desperate to convince Luke that heβs telling the truth, darnit. Luke thinks heβs growing increasingly desperate to be funny.
Darth Vader mcfreakin loses it when Lukeβs first words upon seeing him are a sarcastic βOh hi, dadβ with enough sass to choke Jabba the Hut.
Vader: βhow did you know.β
Luke turns to Obi-wan and splutters.
Luke: βHow?? How did you get Darth Vader to play along with your stupid joke????β

okay but vader didnβt know either. he thought his kid was dead. heβd probably put it together faster if obi-wanβs new apprentice called him βdadβ and turned out to be named Luke Skywalker, but this would be HOW HE FOUND OUT.
Vader has to sit down for a minute lest he has a fucking heart attack, but his suit would make that unnecessarily difficult so he just stands there having a silent system meltdown.
Luke is utterly confused while Obi-Wan tries desperately not to have a laughing fit. He is way past his prime, but this was unintentionally the best trolling heβs ever done.
Vader realizes that FUCK, this is absolutely something a son of his would say isnβt it.
Luke is only just now registering the implications and starts screaming at Obi-Wan, who is still laughing, he DID try to tell him, after all.
Vader snaps out of it and regains his composure.
Luke, still screaming: βSo, that part about my sister was true too!?!?β
Vader: ββ¦.β
Vader: βYOUR WHAT!?β
Palpatine: hey Vader where are you youβre supposed to be on the Death Star
Vader: sorry Iβm on paternity leave
Palpatine: youβre on what now
Vader: do you KNOW how much child support I owe right now?? i donβt have time to conquer the galaxy and rule at your side as your iron fist. i need to get a job that pays
