I really don't like selfshipping. It is entirely alien to how I enjoy media. I'm often irritated by selfshipping occupying more and more space in fandom tags in the past few years.

But. This newer swing of things is almost certainly a more honest expression than ship art/fic that clearly only cares about 1 character (usually a man) to the complete characterization detriment of the other (usually a woman) because the work is actually just selfshipping with one layer of obfuscation. And that is infinitely more annoying than the simple honesty of drawing yourself dating a made up guy.

Perhaps this is an obnoxious take on my part, but video games should, above all things, prioritize the ability of being paused. At any point. Regardless of whether it's during a cutscene, a special animation, or a time-based puzzle. You never know when you're gonna get a phone call, or someone will need you in another room, or you get a sudden urge to go to the bathroom, or you hear your cat licking plastic, or whatever. Other entertainment mediums like books, movies, and music can be paused whenever you want. Why do some games not give you the same luxury??

#The trend of unpausability pisses me off #Because it's just another Souls feature that has been plucked from context and clumsily applied with zero understanding of its origin #Dark Souls doesn't pause because it's designed to always be online for its drop-in-drop-out multi-player features #It has absolutely nothing to do with any idea that it makes the game More Difficult #How can we know that?#SEKIRO PAUSES.#A game that is absolutely designed to be more restricting and mechanically challenging than From's modern RPGs #has a pause feature. Because it doesn't have online multi-player features the same way its sibling games do.#But because the vast majority of game dev can only be derivative in the most vapid sense #We've created an arbitrary inconvenience from whole cloth because of deference to a canonical title #that is poorly understood by nearly all of its imitators.
